Austin, Texas, Nov 14. John Fielding Myers of Ferris, Ellis County, UT student, built a 5 by 8 foot pine shack near the UT campus as his residence until graduation. The structure cost 14 dollars 75 cents, with an upper berth, bookcase, table, heating stove and chair, and a corrugated iron roof.

Japanese Cane Promises Bigger Syrup Harvest at Steep Hollow
J J Vandiver of Steep Hollow brings a sample Japanese cane to the Eagle office. He says the plant grows up to sixteen feet tall with stalks twice the size of sorghum and yields eight to ten feet of fodder. Vandiver has made syrup from it and praises its productivity. Matagorda farmer John South, visiting, planted the cane and says it could reach twenty feet in rich Old Caney soil and may produce forty tons per acre.
