Austrian submarine and Italian destroyer sunk in night duel

Rome reports an Austrian submarine and an Italian destroyer were sunk in a night duel on October 16. The submarine attacked a transport that escaped. Teuton forces advanced west of Bodza Pass as two Kaiser class dreadnoughts were reportedly torpedoed by British submarines.

Fire Destroys Minnie Estill Home In City Section

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the southwest city home of Mrs. Minnie Estill Saturday night around 8:30. The blaze began on the east side, gaining headway before discovery as the family returned from supper. The house and contents were a total loss with about $2,500 on the building and $5,250 on the furnishings, all but the building insured. The Eagle joins friends in sympathy. firefighters, hampered by low water pressure, saved adjacent property.

Thief Trailed by Victim After Train Chase

Arthur Stewart, a colored man, fled with a suitcase of new clothes from Marlin last Saturday. A second man pursued him to Bryan on the same H T C train and identified Stewart, who was captured wearing the stolen garments. Officers recovered the clothing and detained the thief.
