Executive Red Cross Committee Appointed in Brazos County

The Brazos county chapter of the American Red Cross appointed its executive committee at a Monday meeting. Nominating members were E. J. Jenkins, Mrs. Tyler Haswell, Dr. J. O. Wilkerson, Mrs. W. B. Bizzell, Mrs. Albert Buchanan, and Mrs. A. Benbow. Included are E. H. Astin, W. C. Lawson, John A. Moore Jr., and others with appointments across multiple towns and institutions.

Death of Mrs Moss Pioneer Resident

Mrs Mary Moss aged 87 died Monday November 1 at 6 30 pm at the home of Mrs A W Emmet and John Nichol in this city after a long illness. Born in Georgia May 20 1838 she came to Texas from Durant Miss arriving in Galveston December 24 1869 then moved to Brazos county where she lived ever since. Survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral at 1 pm then burial at Alexander. Pallbearers named Ollie Emmet Hudson Myres Morris Tatum Rudolph Myres Henry Rhode Claude Walker.

Bryan Day at the Cotton Palace in Waco

Special to the Eagle. Bryan day at the Cotton Palace will be Saturday November 6 and will also be A M day. The Bryan Chamber of Commerce aims to bring 1000 Bryanites to the exposition that day. Added to Bryan attendees, about 1500 A M college students are expected.

Pardon for shell shocked Canadian soldier by Governor Hobby

Governor Hobby pardoned a former Canadian soldier who was gassed and shell shocked at Ypres. The man, jailed for two years in Brazos county for check fraud, was granted pardon on British Consul S. W. Barnes request after medical tests showed hallucinations from shell shock. Transportation to a post war Canadian hospital was arranged.

Brazos County Cotton Club Forms Permanent Organization

The Brazos County unit of the United Cotton Growers Association of America completed permanent organization at the courthouse last Saturday with about two hundred farmers in attendance. Capt. L. D. Williams and A. W. Kinnard outlined aims to price producer products, cover production costs, and ensure fair profits. The group plans warehouses in each cotton belt county and a central marketing agency to sell directly to spinners, backed by a financial system and storage facilities. The gathering, following previous meetings and a Cotton Congress push, added forty new members to reach nearly two hundred, then named officers: E. A. Peters president, plus four vice presidents, secretary-treasurer, and an executive board.
