Synod Thanks Bryan for Hospitable Texas Session

The Synod of Texas expressed gratitude to Bryan pastors churches and citizens for hospitality during the recent annual session hosted by First Presbyterian Church. They praised the cordial fellowship and thanked the Commercial Club Bryan Daily Eagle and Texas A and M College for services rendered. The note credits Bryan’s hospitality with making the gathering pleasant profitable and well ordered.

Rumor of U-53 Sinking by Stanley Reaches Nova Scotia

Captain W G Tudor of the Hochelaga said rumors persisted that the German U boat 53 had been sunk off Sydney by the Canadian patrol boat Stanley. He heard the rumor many times but could not verify it. Tudor noted no details on the submarine crew's fate were provided.

Belton Mills to Reopen Under New Company

Belton Texas records indicate the Belton cotton mills will restart operations November 1 under a newly formed company with $25 000 capital. P M Kellar named active manager, with experience at large mills, leading overhaul and new machinery installation since October 1. Electric power will run the plant and it will produce high grade yarn for knit underwear hosiery in the East.

New Armor-Piercing Bullet Demonstrated at Sandy Hook Tests

Army officers report the .30 caliber armor-piercing bullet can penetrate a three quarters inch steel plate at 50 yards and injure targets behind it. The steel tipped lead lubricated projectile shows little distortion and aims to defeat armored cars and troops in protected positions.

The transfer agent moved two prisoners to the Huntsville penitentiary yesterday. Jack Childs, colored, received a life term for murdering his wife. Albert Rim, colored, got a light term for burglary.

Frank J. Elbrich Dies at Fountain Sanatorium

Frank J. Elbrich aged 39 years and 9 months died at the Fountain sanatorium this morning at 1 o'clock. He leaves a wife and five children. Formerly a market keeper in the city he was known for fair dealings. Funeral Friday at St Joseph's church with burial at Shiloh cemetery two miles east of College.

Postmaster Reports Delayed Free Mail Delivery

Postmaster Astin says free mail delivery in Bryan is delayed by 20 to 30 days due to missing house numbers and street signs and a shipment delay of equipment from Washington. He expects the holdup to last about twenty to thirty days at most.

Fourth Quarterly Conference Held at Bryan Charge Church

The Bryan charge Navasota district held its fourth quarterly meeting at the Methodist church with Rev. BH Shettles presiding. Officers for the coming year were elected including stewards and a Sunday school superintendent. A resolution commending Rev E L Shettles for his service was adopted and a copy sent to the Bryan Eagle.

Villa plans to cut off reinforcements to Chihuahua

San Antonio Texas October 27 Villa reportedly prepared a movement on Santa Rogalia to sever the railroad between Juarez and Saltillo and block Franco forces from reaching Chihuahua from the south. The claim came in a report to headquarters from General Pershing.
