Bryan Man Honored With Place on Platform Resolutions Com

Judge W C Davis named delegate to the National Convention in New York June 26 and placed on the Platform and Resolution committee. The Texas State Democratic Convention in Waco opened with about 1100 delegates. Marshall Hicks elected temporary chairman and Colonel Ernest Thompson secretary as committees were formed before adjournment.

Delegates Back McAdoo and Owsley at Texas Convention

In Waco on May 28 delegates to the National Democratic Convention were instructed to vote for William Gibbs McAdoo and Alvin Owsley for vice president. Governor Pat M. Neff endorsed by the state convention declined a national delegate spot, with Mike T. Lively named in his place. The hall saw a major demonstration for Owsley led by the Old Gray Mare Band of Brownwood.

Carl Wipprecht Named Member of Jersey Cattle Club

Burleson Flogging Case Upheld by Court of Criminal Appeals

The convictions of Dewey Ball and Olin Gossett of Williamson county for the flogging of traveling salesman R. W. Burleson were affirmed by the Court of Criminal Appeals. Each man received a one year term for assault with prohibited weapons.

Circle No 2 Baptist Auxiliary Delivers Farewell Shower

The Circle No 2 of the First Baptist Auxiliary met at Mrs. Paul Dansby’s home. Members hosted a farewell social for Mrs. O Q Marshall as she leaves Bryan for Waco. A prayer opened, and the program centered on love with a poem and verses. Handkerchiefs and love gifts showered Mrs Marshall as cake was served.

Brazos County Delegates Return From State Convention

Delegates from Brazos county report a very good time at the State convention in Waco and note successful proceedings. Judge W. C. Davis served on the platform and resolutions committee and was chosen as a National convention delegate in New York. Hood's Brigade Visitor From Calvert In Bryan

Col J K P Hanna of Hood's Brigade Texas Infantry Calvert was a welcome visitor in Bryan today. He met Mayor Haswell Secretary Eberstadt and Mrs Rountree and discussed plans for the Texas Hood's Brigade annual meeting in Bryan on June 25 and 26. He is in good health and looks forward to the reunion with his comrades.

Nash contractor starts wrecking old North Main building

J. H. Nash, contractor, has a gang of twenty workers wrecking the brick building on North Main Street. The former Mrs. John B. Mike property, bought by Allen Smith, will be cleared this week to make way for a new one story brick structure 80 by 125 feet with a modern cold storage plant.

Cotton market shows early gains then closes lower on selling

Liverpool opens bullish with 20 point gains seen in US markets and forecasts of worse weather and stronger dry goods demand. Mid session selling by major Wall Street interests drags prices down, July futures 10 points and new crop 20 points lower. Bryan spots quoted at 29 7 8 cents middling.

Three Die After Train Collision Near Station

A car driver and his two children were killed when their vehicle was struck by a train this morning. The driver’s small daughter also died shortly after the crash. Investigators are reviewing signals and witnesses for details.

A Dallas grade crossing collision killed three people and injured two others last night. J E Reiner, 33, driver of the car, died early today. His daughter Marguerite, 11, died shortly after. Annie May Reid, 23, died two hours after the crash. Mrs J E Reiner, 32, suffers a fractured skull and internal injuries with little hope of recovery.

Rainfall Update Shows Heavy Sunday-Monday Rainfall

Early morning into afternoon rain totals reached 1.12 inches in the latest gauge reading. The George A. Adams Insurance Agency gauge recorded .89 inches by 8:00 and about half as much more by 1:00. More rainfall appeared likely as of press time.

Allen Academy Concert Delights Tabernacle Audience

Last night at the Baptist Tabernacle Allen Academy music groups under Professor Anton Ernst offered a mainly classical program. The cadet band and orchestra impressed with soloists Miss Elizabeth Cline, Mr. Richard Grant, Cadet Clark Estes and Cadet Wilbur Park, praised for skill and promising futures.

New Storm Sewer Replaces Two Pipes on Main Street

City workmen under street superintendent J Z Ramsey replaced two 8 inch storm sewers on Main Street between First National Bank and Eugene Edge's store with one 18 inch line. The larger pipe will carry more than twice the discharge, and City Manager McAdams notes even heavy rain barely stresses it. This upgrade ends water backup at the corner after heavy rainfall.

Bank Robbery Suspect Norma Anderson Arrested

Norma Anderson an 18 year old with a baby in her arms was arrested at Hanna City after allegedly holding up the Steen burg Bank at Farmington yesterday. Police recovered over $1000 seized from a teller window.

Bryan Inventor Develops Grasshopper Poisoning Spray

The Brazos Bottom and upland districts face a grasshopper infestation threatening crops. Bryan inventor J. M. Saladiner reports a spray using cow dip mixed with water that killed hoppers quickly and cheaply. He cites formulas from the A. and M. College and notes machines are needed to apply a fine spray across fields.

Rev and Mrs King Vivion Plan June Chicago Drive

Rev King Vivion a Methodist pastor at A and M College will leave June 3 with his wife and baby for Chicago to pursue a Ph D in the New Testament at the University. They travel via Nashville where Mrs Vivions brother will graduate from Vanderbilt and Paducah to visit relatives. Mrs Vivions uncle Geo B Vinton formerly editor of the National Christian Advocate will be met. They expect to return to College around September 1.

Tornado Toll Rises Across the South

The death toll from storms in the South rose to 45 with about 100 injured and substantial property damage over 1.9 million dollars. Mississippi reported 22 dead, Alabama 19 dead, and Oklahoma saw a fatal tornado strike that killed Joseph Jett and four children, with Mrs. Jett gravely hurt.

Plane crash in Haiti kills lieutenant and injures sergeant

Lieutenant Walter Hallenburg of Louisville was killed and Gunnery Sergeant Moore of Denver seriously injured when the plane crashed at low altitude during gunnery practice near Port au Prince Haiti. The aircraft burned after the crash.

Mrs Evans Hosts Circle No 6 Meeting At Home

Circle No 6 of the Baptist Ladies Auxiliary met Monday afternoon with Mrs J T Evans as hostess in a recently renovated home filled with spring blossoms. Plans were made to send towels and pillows to the Orphan Home in Houston. Mrs W R Thomas led devotionals and Mrs W C Fountain gave a mission study summary.
