Remus to testify before Senate committee from Atlanta prison

By Associated Press Washington May 14 The Senate Daugherty Committee ordered the Atlanta penitentiary warden to produce George Remus Ohio bootlegger now a convict to testify before it. Several witnesses told the committee Remus with an immense whiskey operation in Ohio enjoyed special comforts at the penitentiary while serving a two year sentence.

Coolidge Meets Today On Japanese Exclusion Policy

President Coolidge meets with leaders of both parties in Congress to discuss a response to Japanese exclusion efforts. The session aims to align on immigration policy and national security considerations amid ongoing protests and legislative action.

Messenger Boy Reaches Top: Webb Joins T&P Presidency Team

O B Webb, longtime Texas and Pacific Railway employee from Dallas, is promoted to assistant to the president with headquarters in New Orleans. Webb began as a messenger boy at 18 earning 15 a month, marking a milestone in a career steeped in faithful service. His Bryan friends note his active Baptist lay leadership and a recent Kansas City conference where the promotion was finalized. Mrs Webb, a Bryan girl, has ties to New York and Irma Harris, while Mrs Nellie Test is identified with Carnegie Hall events. Webb’s Bryan engagement was canceled by telegram to attend the Kansas City meeting.

Bi County Meet At Jones Bridge Over Brazos River

County Commissioners of Burleson and Brazos counties met Tuesday morning at Jones Bridge over the Brazos to plan permanent repairs after floods. Brazos county indicated readiness to act. Street car extension to Allen Academy proposed

A Bryan College Traction Company board and citizen committee met to discuss extending street car service to Allen Academy and Villa Maria. They declined the extension due to debt and summer costs, needing 3000 to 4000 dollars more and 2500 to 5000 dollars for track upgrades plus electricity. A counter proposal offered citizens finance while the company operated the line, but citizens declined. Participants included Eugene H. Edge and James Sullivan for the company, M. E. Wallace and others for citizens.

Walkover Electric Walking Man Prize Won by J C Ashford

The A M Waldrop store held a Walkover Electric Walking Man contest last week and awarded a pair of Walk-Over shoes to J C Ashford, a federal student at the A and M College. Horace Jones Dies After Long Illness at 49

Horace O Jones aged 49 died Sunday at 6 30 after years of illness and tuberculosis. Funeral at 6 p m Sunday at Newsom Cemetery near Jones Bridge conducted by Rev J P Brown. Local attorney F L Henderson spoke in tribute to Brazos county man and former public officer. He served Brazos as district clerk and county surveyor. He married Agnes Kubeker on Sept 12 1917 and left two children Horace Weldon and Winnie Elizabeth. Former Bryan Girl Visits Old Home Town

Mr and Mrs F A Hervey of Houston stop in Bryan on a return trip from San Antonio. They visit Dr and Mrs C A Searcy and other relatives.
