Dr J N Goodwin of McAllen formerly of Bryan is reported very sick there. His sister Mrs N A Stewart left Monday for McAllen to be with him. Mr and Mrs J T Maloney and Milton Maloney motored to Mexia this morning. Milton Maloney has accepted a position in Mexia and began his duties this morning. Mr and Mrs Maloney Sr returned to Bryan this afternoon. Mr and Mrs H N Cochran hosted guests over the past week end including their daughter and family Mr and Mrs Tinsley Ellis and Mary Margaret Ellis and friends Mr and Mrs John Wilson of New Braunfels.
Brazos and Burleson counties consider repairing Koppes Bridge with new stringers and floor. Estimated cost about 3200 dollars, Burleson offers 900 with Brazos covering the rest. A WPA project may be arranged for aid, with photos of the bridge to WPA officials.
School children from eight counties in District No. 20 led by Charles Barclay of the State Department of Education plan to converge on Kyle Field at Texas A M College Thursday at 3 pm for a song program. The district meeting precedes a state wide 50 000 voice sing along in Dallas June 16 broadcast internationally.
Heirs of W. E. Graham sue Southern Pacific Lines for 20250 alleging a dangerous crossing near old Highway 6 with obscured track view due to dirt and weeds. They claim no warning signals or whistle on approach and estimate damages from his fatal Feb 7 crash, based on a $2500 annual income and an eight year life expectancy.
In the nine months ending April 1 Texas farmers borrowed 13,365,050 from the Federal land bank and Land Bank Commission er at a 4 percent rate. The average loan was 4117 with an estimated annual interest saving of about 115 dollars per borrower. Loans refinanced high rate debts and funded land and equipment purchases.
Manley Braczyk aged ninety years one month and sixteen days died at the family residence on East 28th street after a brief illness. He moved to Brazos county in 1886 and became a local pioneer. Survived by six daughters, one son Tom of Houston, and many grandchildren and a great grandson, with funeral services at 8:45 a.m. at home and 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church led by Rt. Rev. J. B. Gleissner. Interment in Bryan Catholic cemetery. Funeral by McCulloch Dansby Co.
Mesdames N. R. Smith M. R. Bentley W. B. Richards T. H. Wilson A. L. Cook and possibly others will leave early Wednesday for Hempstead to attend an Order of the Eastern Star school of instruction.
The Bryan Eagle editor Mrs. Lee J. Rountree was the sole woman on the program at the Southeast Division Texas State Teachers Convention in Beaumont. Her resume in the Southern Newspaper Publishers' Association bulletin from Chattanooga stresses schools and press as twin foundations of a free people and urges joint service by both agencies.
Judge Ferguson and Mayor Johnson announced a committee to survey charitable and welfare work in Brazos County. Daniel Russell Mrs J L Brock C M Bethany Dr W Andrew and Mrs A J Buchanan were named to plan coordination and avoid duplication of effort. Meetings and steps will be announced later.
This year permits total $110,646 with 10 in January 23,185 and 7 in February 14,125. In March 32 permits amounted to 29,241 and April adds 35 permits reflecting repairs and new work including a Dansby home on Baker Avenue valued at about 8,000 brick veneer one story six rooms start soon.

Wesa Weddington spoke on Civic Affairs in Early Days and read from the county history by her grandfather Colonel Mitchell. Mrs J T Hanway recalled Social Life in Bryan and College as told by her mother.
The Bryan Cemetery Association elected officers and set the yearly meeting schedule at City Hall. Mayor C S Johnson attended and offered guidance as the board approved an intensive membership drive aiming to enlist every cemetery lot owner.
President William Green of the American Federation of Labor told the National Women's Trade Union League convention in Washington that Roosevelt should be reelected. He praised the NRA's legacy and the social security program, saying the leadership must continue the forward movement.
Judge W C Davis names C B Jones cashier of First State Bank and Trust Co as receiver for the New Globe Drygoods Co upon creditor petition. Jones begins operations with staff to continue business until sale or liquidation.
Arrangements set to locate the Eagle cooking school in the former Webb Brothers building on May 21 22 and 24. Mrs. M R Bentley will represent The Eagle and Mrs Martha McDonald will lecture on home economics with demonstrations and a question box for attendee inquiries. Prizes include food staples and decorative items.
Emil Griesser 65 died at his west 24th street home after a long illness. A Bryan merchant and bakery owner since 1898 he leaves his widow Emma Gerke Griesser and son Charles EB Griesser with three grandchildren Bob Dell and Charlene. Funeral from the family home at 5 pm with Dr W H Andrew of First Baptist presiding. Burial City Cemetery under McCulloch Dansby arrangements. Pallbearers listed: Edgar C Jones Ray Pippin Sam Noto Ernest Nitch Charlie Rahnart Charlie Moehiman Sr.
Democrats from Bryan precincts met Saturday at 2 pm to select delegates for the county convention to be held Tuesday May 5 at the courthouse. The conventions endorsed the Roosevelt administration.
R C Franks of the Bryan Lions Club is nominated to be District 28 Governor at the Lions convention in Victoria May 10 11 and 12. Delegates L L Pis tole J Coulter Smith I Maniloff and R C Dansby attend. Other items include Roland Dansby named Softball League manager and plans for Amateur Hour.
Stephen F. Austin high school seniors partook in Senior Day during the regular activities period. The class, over 100 strong and the largest in the school’s history, then traveled to Sue Haswell Memorial Park for the annual Senior Day picnic following a program of music readings and humorous numbers.
Mr and Mrs Coulter Hoppess prepare to move into a newly finished east 29th street residence. The Bryan home includes Bryan’s first glass bathroom fixtures and many modern additions, with occupancy hoped for next week but possible delay to the following week.
Bryan wins cup for largest delegation to the tenth annual East Texas Chamber of Commerce convention in Houston. Dallas selected as next meeting site. T. E. Acker becomes chamber president succeeding A. G. Mayse after unanimous vote. Officials include Byron Black Paul Sanderson Jess Ford W S Higgs Sam H Whitley and others. A grand ball followed at Sylvan Beach with princesses chosen from each county.
The Mathematics Contests at A M College will hold final examinations on Thursday May 14. Only winners from the April 28 preliminaries may compete and prizes include gold watches for sophomores and freshmen and five dollar prizes for third place. Banquet prizes will be awarded May 18 at Ibisa Hall. Eligible sophomores and freshmen are listed with names of competitors.
