Mrs Lee J Rountree rushed to Fl Pase Saturday due to her mother Mrs T C Mitchell’s severe pneumonia with slim recovery chances. Miss Hattie Nemec of Bryan high school visited her parents at Smetana while Miss Lena Novosad of Kings Highway stayed with her family, returning to Bryan for the week. Mrs H G Umland on College road has heart trouble and was said to be improving today.
Sylvan Childress, a Black man, will go on trial in district court Wednesday morning for the murder of Ethel Williams, a Black woman who had formerly lived with him and had left and refused to return. The stabbing occurred on North Bryan avenue with a special venue of 44 jurors called.
Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Erskine attended funeral services in Kosse this afternoon for Mrs. W. S. Glover who died Sunday after a long illness.
J F McNeil a Robertson County man given a 40 year term for wife murder was captured near Bremond Saturday night after escaping Franklin jail Friday night He had forfeited his appeal rights and will be moved to Huntsville to begin serving his sentence He had been jailed at Franklin then held at Bryan due to local sentiment following the murder.
March 20 1933 Samuel Insull Sr plans to return to the United States after the case excitement subsides and live in America the rest of his life an attorney said. The lawyer confirmed contact with the fugitive aboard a Mediterranean ship but would not reveal the vessel or location. He may not reach justice and fears possible lynching by crowds. His final destination remained unknown.
In Washington on March 20 the Senate voted 40 to 33 to bar politics in Home Owners Loan Corporation appointments. After a heated debate Democrats failed 35 to 34 to reconsider. The administration bill now guarantees principal and interest on 2 billion dollars of bonds refinancing home mortgages.

Brazos county public health nurse Mrs Ednad Abbott accompanied by Jess Shelton traveled to Galveston Monday and brought back to Bryan two children from the hospital inmates Gripple Chin Sara Agnes Goebel and Louis Martinez. The children will stay in Bryan for now then return to the hospital.
Fort Worth Texas March 20 Postmaster General Farley appointed James Rowland as acting postmaster at Fort Worth Texas.
The Bryan school board lowered summer school fees by 20 percent and re-elected the city school superintendent S M Brown and principals at Stephen F Austin high Travis Bowie elementary and Kemp high. New rates set high school 12 and 8 for two courses term cost 20 at elementary. Supt Brown named summer term director with Benson and Jones as full time teachers. Weddington named Stephen F Austin High principal and Brown Travis Bethany Kemp principals renewed.
Police reveal a vast international espionage plot against the United States France and Great Britain based on testimony from two American prisoners Mr and Mrs Robert Switt who were questioned after seven hours and had been held since December. Investigators say Germany and Soviet Russia benefited from the ring with cooperation from US and English police.
Paris March 20 Judge Benon announced that Mr and Mrs Robert Gordon Switz Americans held as spies had advanced information leading to more arrests. He said he broke through their iron defenses during a dramatic meeting where the couple were brought together.
The partly decomposed body of W F Potter a 43 year old former top track star was found in a thicket one mile northwest of Fort Worth The rope around his neck appeared broken six inches from the knot indicating hanging He may have died about a week ago The local justice of the peace said a thorough inquest would be held but the death was believed to be self inflicted
Brig. Gen. Charles R. Rowland urged disfranchising criminals and enforcing freedom by force if needed during the opening program of the Texas DAR state convention in San Antonio. More than 150 delegates and alternates attended with additional visitors statewide.
Dowager Queen Anna of Holland dies at 75 in The Hague. Known for sweetness and sympathy, she won broad affection from former subjects since becoming second wife of King William III in 1879. Her legacy echoes through Dutch history and her daughter Queen Wilhelmina. Local tributes pour in from women and citizens.
The Bryan Lions club will stage its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday March 31 under supervisor Henry Ross with helpers Luke Patranella L L Pistole Chas Edge J Maniloff and Coulter Smith. W W Duncan longtime Edge resident and Bryan mail carrier died after a brief illness at 64 8 9. He leaves a widow and six children Elbert Ansel J H Murphy Mrs J J Murphy Ethel Bulah. Services will be at Willow Hole Free Will Baptist Church Wednesday at 3 with Rev Bounds officiating. Interment Willow Hole Cemetery.
Riot broke out in Paris as hundreds fought police lines to seize eight Stavisky scandal prisoners en route to jail from Bayonne. Police kept the prisoners as the crowd stormed lines and was beaten back.
Preparations were under way in Garrison to drag lakes near the town for N. M. Edwards former mayor who disappeared from his home March 11. He was in the hotel business and told his wife he would be gone only a few minutes.
Fourteen cars of vegetables have been shipped from Alice this season including six cabbage three mixed vegetables and two cars of spinach. About fifty cars have been shipped from Orange Grove in the north end of the county.
Walter Bolmanskie 20 son of Mr and Mrs J M Bolmanskie of Steeles Store died after a gravel truck left the Sandy Point road 112 miles west of Bryan broke in two. The rear section crushed his chest and fatally injured him. A report says he pulled right to avoid another car causing the crash. He was found in a ditch taken to Dr R H Harrison Jr's office and died there. Funeral services were held at McCulloch Dansby chapel with Rt Rev J B Gleissner in charge. Interment in Smetana cemetery.
County Agent C. L. Benson reports considerable damage feared to fruit from Monday morning frost. It may take days to gauge losses as many blossoms already in bloom show blackening.
City commission discussed multiple topics including lease of Bryan Country Club property filtration plant for water supply and a new city dump site. They approved installing a 6 inch water main on Ursuline Avenue to replace a failing 4 inch line, and set a committee to study filtration options and inspect Texas plants.
More than fifty young women from Texas cities and colleges will model cotton costumes from sports to evening wear at the third annual Cotton Ball and Pageant at Texas A and M College on April 6. Sponsored by the Agronomy Society, the event highlights cotton as the South’s key crop and preludes the college cotton contest for junior and senior students. Cotton king and queen will preside over the festivities.
