Death of D Cunningham in Smetana Community

D Cunningham, a longtime Smetana resident about 70, died at his home yesterday morning and was buried at City Cemetery in Bryan today. Survived by wife, two sons Gip and Hall Cunningham, and daughter Mrs Dandy Cahill. he was known for his quiet, retiring nature and was well regarded countywide.

Pause in German Verdun Offensive Slows Infantry Action

London reports a pronounced pause in the German infantry offensive against Verdun though artillery bombardment continues. French aviators bombarded the Corflans station causing fires. Young Glenn Cloud Receives Stitches After Street Accident

Yesterday afternoon Glenn Cloud, son of Mr and Mrs W F Cloud, was struck by a city water works repair wagon driven by George Williams near the Houston and Texas Central depot. The vehicle cut a severe gash in his right cheek requiring two stitches. Williams did not see the child in time to stop. no blame attaches to him. The boy is alert and recovering.
