Postmaster and Mrs Marvin Carroll came back from a district postmasters meeting in Corsicana and then toured East Texas by auto visiting Mrs Carrolls mother Mrs George Johnson in Teneha and her brother Howard Johnson in Palestine. They named Athens Tyler Longview Carthage and Marshall among towns visited and praised good roads and splendid crops.

Large Per Cent Of School Children Found Defective

The bureau of child hygiene report shows 8 percent of 5,657 school children examined defective. Other state health nursing activities include 91 children’s health conferences, 915 preschool exams with 374 defective, 116 prenatal conferences, 25 mothers classes, 23 midwife classes, 18 dental clinics, 77 little mothers leagues organized, 13 community demonstrations, 73 home demonstrations, 34 health centers established, 149 group talks, 1,546 individual conferences, 116 local doctors assisting, and 443 lay helpers.

Funeral Service Held For George Royder Monday

The funeral of George C. Royder, who died at his Goose Creek Texas home Saturday afternoon, was held Monday June 1 at the home of Mrs. T. H. Royder in Wellborn. Rev. Jesse Thomson assisted by Dr. John A. Held led the service. The Goose Creek IOOF No. 960 and SCOF Bryan accompanied the burial party. Internment was in Wellborn cemetery with many friends attending. The widow and two children survive J. D. Royder of Goose Creek and Mrs. Hugo John of Bryan.

Brazos County Honored for Terrace and Drainage Work

County Agent Benson receives a telegram from Owensboro Ditcher and Grader Company inviting him to attend the Fordson school in Houston from June 8 to 15 to speak on terracing and drainage. The trip is paid by the company as recognition of Benson's excellent terracing and drainage in Brazos County. The Chamber of Commerce will furnish a Martin ditcher to assist, enabling Brazos County to lead in terrace work.

Tick eradication plan gains in Texas counties

Fort Worth June 3. Counties in the Texas tick eradication area are joining the fifty fifty co operation plan to destroy pests. There are 29 counties in the compulsory area and nearly all have agreed to pay half of the expense while the State covers the other half.

The Texas A and M College board accepted President W B Bizzell’s resignation yesterday to take effect September 1. He asked for release as soon as possible and will likely travel to Oklahoma to finalize his program. A successor will be named by September 1 with no interim administration.

Train Crash Injures Orange Man at College Station Crossing

Wallet of Orange was seriously injured when an H and T C freight train crashed into his truck at Jones Crossing below College Station. Trainmen rushed him to Bryan for treatment by Dr. Searcy and Wilkerson. he received stitches for a scalp wound and other injuries. He rests at the doctors’ rooms and hopes to return home to Orange tomorrow afternoon. He was transporting a truckload of furniture for W E Nichols of Orange who is moving to Waco. He recalls seeing the train just before impact.

Bryan Team Captures First in Yoakum Open Shooting

Seven shooters from Bryan took part in an open shoot at Yoakum. The Bryan team earned first place with a total 110 of 125 and received solid gold medals. Individual scores included N A Stewart 24 25 and W M Wickes 23 for the team. Dell of Yoakum won the 100 target event with 93.

Bryan Sees First Home Grown Water Melon

Jim Williams, a Black farmer on the Joe Boriskie farm seven miles south of Bryan, brought to Bryan a water melon said to be the first seen in town. He says the first melon from his 1- to 2-acre patch matured May 28, small in size but sweet with rich color. The rain this year, a little over 8 inches, still allows Brazos County to yield melons.

Villa Maria Academy Bryan presented an Old Tyme Concert in its auditorium on Thursday night. The 8 15 performance drew a capacity crowd as students dressed in colonial costume delivered splendid numbers and earned much praise from attendees.

Higher Court Affirms Three Executions

The Criminal Court of Appeals affirmed three death sentences today in Austin. Arnul Valleh of El Paso county H P Boxley of Brazoria and Melton Carr of Walker were scheduled for execution after convictions in trial courts.

Stolen car tale ends with arrest in Bryan

Houston reported a Chrysler roadster stolen from Houston. Night Officer K T Tillis spotted a matching car at the White Front Cafe in Bryan and detained the driver after a dramatic pursuit. Constable J D Conlee notified and the suspect is jailed for auto theft.

Rev J J Tatum arrives at the Eagle office with a package of gooseberries from his old Illinois home. The green berries with a red tinge resemble marbles in a faint striped form. The editor notes the unusual fruit for the South and questions the motive.

Differences Magletto Gets One Year In Pen On Whiskey Charge

In Texas v Magletto and two sons, Dif and Alford, resisting officers and possessing whiskey were charged. Dif received one year in the pen for four counts. Alford, 17, one year with suspended sentence. Sam Magletto fined 100 dollars and costs in aggravated assault. Ben Hanna pleaded guilty to liquor charges, one year. others convicted for hog theft received two years with suspended terms.

Hood's Texas Brigade plans its annual reunion in Bryan on Friday and Saturday June 26 and 27. The event was announced by Miss Katie Daffan life secretary in a Chamber of Commerce letter read at the board of directors meeting. The gathering will coincide with A and M College commencement exercises. The group also discussed river pollution from nearby oil fields and urged action with State Fish and Game Commissioner T. E.
