Flood Committee Tours Brazos River Country Visit

A Washington flood control party met Texas representatives including J M Astin and J E Turner in Bryan. The group toured Whittaker and Hearne with stops at Chance’s store, viewing low lands and flood risks before continuing to Waco. The Texas visitors included local officials from Navasota and Hearne and the congressional party’s trailer train was shown along the Bryan line.

Bank Officials Acquitted After Quick Jury Deliberation

Washington May 27. Three Riggs bank officials on trial for perjury were found not guilty after a brief nine minute jury verdict. The proceedings followed a river flood incident during a return trip from Whittaker with a stop at a critical point where the river threatened the bank.

Negress Bond Set at 500 in Assault Case

Drucila Hudley, a negress, was bound over on assault with intent to murder after an examining trial before Justice McGee. A grand jury will consider the case in September with a 500 bond. no attorney for Hudley and no defense witnesses appeared. she remains jailed awaiting bond.

Lieutenant killed by live wire in Long Island incident

Lieutenant Clarence Avlin Richards, commander of the US destroyer Fanning, was instantly killed in Saghor Long Island during electrical work on a local power plant. A watchman said he touched two heavily charged wires and died at age 34.

Chance Returns from Texas Flood Control Tour

Jas O Chance, member of the reception committee for Texans meeting the congressional flood control group, arrived home after accompanying them through Texas. He toured flooded districts from Waco to Bryan, praised the receptions, and said the inspection was thorough and beneficial for future projects.
