British war leaders aboard the Hamshire were lost when the ship struck a mine or was torpedoed off the West Orkneys. Four lifeboats escaped but seas capsized them. bodies found. Lord Kitchener was en route to Russia. confidence of survivors was low. Others aboard included Obeiine Fitzgerald Ellisham and Donaldson. Jellicoe reported little chance of saving anyone.

UT Students Seek Navy Ship for Civilian Training

About 100 University of Texas students petition the secretary of the navy to send a battleship to Galveston so they can join the naval training school for civilians. They want to enlist to avoid traveling to Charleston, S C, for the cruise. Murderers to be placed on trial in Muskogee

Ida Hadley of Beaumont Texas and Kansas City Missouri were to face trial in Muskogee on murder charges in the shooting of Sheriff Jake Giles on a Missouri Kansas and Texas train near Muskogee. The case involves an insanity defense and a fund raised by the Texas Sheriffs Association for the prosecution. Giles was killed after disarming him, and the couple fled with the conductor forced to stop the train before capture.
