Bryan Cuts Fire Insurance Key Rate to Save City Funds

The City Commission reduced Bryan's fire insurance key rate from 36 cents to 27 cents after extensive improvements. Annual premiums drop from about $85,000 to $79,000, a saving of $6,000, while improvements totaling around $30,000 were completed to achieve the lower rate.

Statewide conference in Austin outlines cotton flea control

The July 13 meeting in the Texas capitol chamber urged two treatments of superfine sulfur 10 to 20 pounds per acre at four to seven day intervals as the best control. Governor Ferguson urged an emergency deficiency appropriation for full study of flea habits and other cotton pests. About 150 attendees included farmers bankers cotton brokers entomologists and device salesmen.

Farmer Is Held For Killing His Wife At Cuero

Henry Jans sen, 75, a wealthy Karnes county farmer, is jailed in Karnes City on murder charges after his wife, 45, was found dead on the front porch of the family home eight miles south of Nordheim. The body showed a bullet wound and severe head injuries. The crime was discovered by his 17 year old son, John Jans sen, on Monday.
