Mrs Ralph Howell learns of the death of her uncle Judge W L McDonald in Brooklyn New York. Born in Anderson Texas about 55 years ago he lived in the east many years and worked on government legal affairs in Washington DC at the time of his death. Survived by a wife he was remembered as an educated gentleman and classmate of Senator J R Astin.

George W. Richardson once in charge of provost guards that protected Lincoln in Washington during the Civil War died in Auburn New York at age 94 He was Cayuga county s last surviving forty niner who joined the California gold rush at the war s start.

Condition Of Cotton Crop Slated To Fall A Million Bales

Washington July 1 The 1919 cotton crop is forecast at 10,986,000 bales about a million less than 1918 due to acreage reductions caused by labor scarcity high prices and unfavorable weather. The department of agriculture notes a nine percent decrease amounting to 3,247,000 acres planted across cotton growing states.

New York July 1. A 7.1 point June drop lowers the cotton condition to 71.4 percent, the lowest in ten years, based on 1,800 Journal of Commerce correspondents. Samuel Levy, a Bryan retiree, received a January 22 1917 letter from his mother Mrs Rosalia Levy in Frankfort Germany. The note, written in her hand and mailed to Holland, hinted his brother and two nephews were well then but offered no later news.
