Austin Texas June 26 The attorney general issued mandamus against Anderson county judge to compel sending May 24 constitutional amendment election results to the secretary of state. County returns are arriving as other delinquent counties promise compliance. State officials note delays have not been seen before and credit women’s interest. The law requires canvassing on the Monday after the election and submittal to the secretary of state with the state canvassing board meeting July 3. Governor Hobby declined to propose amendments to tighten penalties for delayed returns due to a looming repeal of the women's primary law.
