Butler Black Fatally Shot in Bryan House Affray

The first Bryan shooting of 1917 occurred last night in a house west of Isons Park. Clarence Sloan, a 1-year-old boy, shot Butler Black in the chest with a Colt .45, the bullet exiting the back. Black is seriously wounded. Sloan surrendered at the county jail after the incident, citing family troubles and his sister's mistreatment.

Mrs. Alice Register Buchanan, wife of Commissioner C. A. Buchanan, died at 11:30 AM at the family home after a long illness. Born October 24, 1877 in Sabine County Texas, she was 39.
