New Counterfeit Ten Dollar Gold Certificate Reported

Washington January 3 Secretary of the Treasury and the Secret Service announce a new counterfeit ten dollar gold certificate of nineteen seven series. It bears check letter A and plate number nine and is printed on two sheets of paper with silk threads distributed between them.

Senator Lodge Attacks Bernstorff On Peace Note Statement

During the Senate debate on endorsing Wilson's peace note Senator Lodge attacked German Ambassador Bernstorff for releasing a newspaper statement approving the note. He said it suggested aiding Germany to press its terms for peace. The action on the note was postponed after a long debate.

Italy makes Austrian troops work on front

An official communication says 30 to 43 Austrian divisions remain engaged on the Italian front. It states Italy has conquered 1,200 square miles and shortened its war front to 375 miles with 1,875 miles of entrenchments. War material is produced in 2,179 Italian factories employing 469,000 workers, including 73,000 women. Austrian prisoners total 85,000.
