The Lions Club held a George Washington event at the Finfeather Club on Tuesday night with the Allen Academy band as guests. E. W. Chaney voiced the program, a 1906 Ford pantomime entertained, and a barbecue dinner accompanied speeches and a large turnout of roughly 100 people.

In Austin on February 23 the Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed two 99 year murder sentences. W A Martin of Denton County was sentenced for the murder of R B Parsons. Grayson, of Polk County, was sentenced for the slaying of Will Evans.
Four bills to implement Governor Moody's court reform program win favorable reports from the Texas House committees on February 23. The measures aim to overhaul court procedures and judiciary operation across the state.

At Quanah on February 23 an explosion tore through an open ditch replacing a gas main for Northern Texas Utilities. About 100 workers were present. three unidentified men killed and a score or more injured. Victims burned or blown from the trench were said to be employed by Hope Engineering Company. AUSTIN Feb. 23 Legislators return to Austin from Laredo where Governor Moody and lawmakers celebrated with Mexican dignitaries in Washington's birthday events. Prospects for a late session of the legislature were anticipated today.
Edward D Grant of Nashville addressed the Men of the Church gathering on foreign missions outlining costs and administration. He noted the church supports 500 missionaries and 3500 native workers in six countries with about 2700 dollars per missionary, stressing more funds are needed while defending low overhead. A later vote for officers and hymns followed.
In Washington on February 23 the Senate held an overnight session to resume debate on the Boulder Canyon dam bill with quorum secured in the morning. Senator Phipps led the opposition against the measure as other opponents prepared to press for a vote before adjournment. Senator Johnson sought to force a vote to avoid the bill's collapse this Congress.
The Alumnae Association hosted a Washington's Birthday Silver Tea at Villa Maria to establish a permanent educational fund. Mrs. Jack Sandifer supervised. performances by Mrs. W. S.
