New State Highway Districts Form in Texas

The Texas highway commission reorganizes the department creating two new road districts numbered 17 and 18. Brazos County joins District 17, with district headquarters at Caldwell. District 18 includes Gaines to Runnels with division offices at Sweetwater or Big Springs and a new division engineer.

Body of Floyd Collins to Rest in Natural Tomb

CAVE CITY February 17. The body of Floyd Collins will be left in his natural tomb after a funeral service at the shaft mouth. His father Lee Collins consented following examination by Dr William Hazlett of Chicago who identified Collins by a gold front tooth. Collins had been dead three to five days when reached yesterday.

Junior Missionary Society Reports Sunday Session

The Junior Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church met with 46 members present plus two visitors. Nine sick visits, two gifts, and 20 Bible readings were logged while devotion was led by Jnc. W. Black Jr. and lessons on Better Americans followed.

Fires Hit Two Homes In Town In Two Days

Two fire alerts disturbed the town within 24 hours. A south west wind carried smoke from a faulty flue at a negro home, causing only slight damage and fear. The second blaze at Ursuline Avenue, at the Siegert residence, required roof access and small chemical extinguishing, with damage estimated at 20 to 25 dollars. The house belonged to J. J. Jones of College.

Langhorne Murder Case Witnesses Summoned in Texas

Dr. P. M. Raysor and Rev. S. Moylan Bird will travel to LaGrange as character witnesses for the defense in The State of Texas vs. Wm. H. Langhorne Jr. Langhorne faces three counts murder, assault to murder, and criminal assault. About 255 witnesses have been summoned from Brenham Chappell Hill and surrounding Texas towns. Bryan residents recall the riding party involving two girls with a stranger in LaGrange with one murdered and the other found slain. Langhorne was arrested in connection with the case.

Chamber of Commerce lists standing committee personnel

The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce met in regular session with President John M. Lawrence presiding. New members J. Coulter Smith and W. C. Mitchell joined, a Board vacancy from J. N. Dulaney was filled by Dean F. C. Boiton, making 25 directors. Committee chairs were announced including Mayor Tyler Haswell for Finance and Membership and Colonel Ike Ashburn for Legislative. Houston named financial vice president of AT and T

Bryan friends report David F. Houston former president of Texas University and A and M College is now financial vice president of American Telephone and Telegraph Company with headquarters in New York. Houston served in Woodrow Wilson's wartime cabinets as agriculture secretary and treasury secretary. Mr and Mrs J W Hill of this city visiting relatives in Waco.
