The East Texas Chamber of Commerce committees for the Bryan convention on May 4 6 and 7 are moving into full speed. The column urges every citizen to contribute to reception care and entertainment to showcase Bryan hospitality and avoid a bad impression.
Mrs J L Brock leaves Bryan to attend the annual Pres Mex school board meeting at Taft where a new president will be chosen after Dr John B Haddon died recently. Mrs Fannie Parker Tilson of Houston visits Bryan and speaks at a United Daughters luncheon.
Mrs J W Coulter and her son W J Coulter traveled from Bryan to Rockdale for the annual joint birthday dinner of W J and H J Coulter at Dr H T Coulter's home. Dr Tiram T Coulter and Walter J Coulter share February birthdays two years apart. Mrs H T Coulter hosted a feast with two birthday cakes and candles.
At the Creath-Brazos Baptist Association quarterly meeting in Navasota First Baptist Church Mrs. J L Reese of Bryan was elected corresponding secretary treasurer to fill the vacancy from Mrs. H Lott's resignation. Mrs. J P King of Bryan presided as associational W M U Work president, with the largest board attendance in history.
Col. Charles Lindbergh arrived in Miami from Havana completing his round trip to Panama as the first pilot for the Central American airmail service. He refused to discuss his engagement with Miss Anne Morrow.
Lindbergh leaves for search at noon after learning that Pan American Airways operations manager R. J. Dunton and pilot Lieutenant Steven Galloway left Havana for Miami yesterday aboard an amphibian plane believed forced down.

The Bryan city commission plans to add a power unit of 600 to 750 horsepower to meet doubled load in three years. The plant now has 1800 horsepower from three 225 HP units plus a 520 HP and a 600 HP unit. the smaller units are aging. Municipal ownership has reduced tax impacts and supported steady street lighting and water pumping savings, with bonds totaling $200,000 issued and net utility value at $693,201 after depreciation.

Bogata Colombia February 13 A newspaper dispatch says six men tried to assassinate Venezuelan President Gomez near Caracas. The president and escort fired back killing all six assailants. No injuries to Gomez were reported.
Beason from County Ag assists on Lee Wilson farm in Tabor today. Wilson is Bud Wilson’s brother, known for terraces in front of Tabor high school. Joe Locke’s letter about terracing spurred Martin ditcher promotion years ago, likely inspiring many thousands of acres to be terraced. Better do it again, Joe.
Ash Wednesday services drew large congregations at St Andrews Episcopal Church Catholic churches in the city Villa Maria Ursuline convent and the Catholic chapel at College Station. Rev. Father J B Gliessner of St. Josephs church spoke on mortality and humility as ashes were placed on foreheads.
Retreat Echo Lyngua a Holstein Friesian cow from Luzerne county set a world production record under Pennsylvania State College supervision. In seven days she produced 502.6 pounds of milk and 382.7 pounds of butterfat, with a best single day of 84.4 pounds. The cow, two years nine months old and weighing 1710 pounds, remains on test.
H H Williamson Sr of Bedias Grimes county returned home after visiting his son Mr and Mrs H H Williamson and their family on College boulevard.
Members of the county commissioners court led by Judge A S McSwain traveled from the county to inspect road building and maintenance machinery in Waco and Dallas. They plan to purchase new equipment and are considering two tractors and three graders. Attending were Judge McSwain Guy Boyett Emmett Holland Fred Wehrman and John M Moore. The court will resume on the return and may not finish business until Saturday.
The Lions Club annual home talent show at the Palace Theatre drew a full audience. Proceeds partly fund park equipment with the rest aiding the East Texas Chamber of Commerce convention in Bryan in May. Performers included Bill Wimberley and others with Edison English and Ruth Johnson debuting as featured acts.
J. H. White announced he has purchased the furnishing of Hotel Bryan from Mrs. J. S. Doane and will operate both the Commercial Hotel and Hotel Bryan. Doane will take a vacation before pursuing other ventures, while R. W. Howell plans remodeling and business space expansion at the Hotel Bryan. A bus company scheme includes a south end driveway, waiting room, and ticket office. the north end will also be remodeled.
A morning fire caused by chimney sparks damaged the roof of a house on Trant street in the southern city section. The residence is occupied by Mary Williams, a Black woman, and owned by Philip Hensarling.

About 100 calls for help were received from ships frozen in the Baltic. Soviet ice breakers are being prepared to start a relief expedition at the request of ship owners.
Georgetown February 11. Harry Leahy convicted slayer of Dr. J. A. Ramsey aged Mathis physician was sentenced to electrocution April 12. Sheriff Lowe with three Texas rangers departed for Huntsville with Leahy.
Delphian club members are told the February 15 meeting is canceled due to an all day missions event. The February 22 meeting will study a combined program of Scott Thackeray and Dickens. Members with text reports should prepare topics for discussion. All members urged to attend.
Miss Marie Haines of College Station, a noted artist, spoke this afternoon at the Waco Art League meeting held at the federation club house on The Practical Use of the Decorative Panel. She stayed as a guest of Mrs. Robert Potts, formerly Miss Esther Davis of College.
O L Tarrant a Houston garage man was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 10 years in the state penitentiary for the New Year’s Day slaying of Tom Bryan in a downtown Galveston apartment.
