Springtime work urged for sand clay roads
The U S Department of Agriculture notes about 35 000 miles of sand clay roads exist mainly in the South. Spring weather when soil is damp is the best time to work them, as late summer repairs cost more and are harder. The road mix relies on sand grains touching with clay binder filling gaps, proportions vary by local sand and clay content.
