Beverly Hills, February 10 Edgar Wallace 56 year old British mystery writer died of pneumonia. He came to Hollywood to write movie scripts and authored over 150 books selling about five million copies annually, averaging a book per month.
W A Duncan Col C C Todd D W Williams and L L Fouraker became new directors at a Bryan Country Club meeting held last night at Howell Lumber Company. The board discussed improvements and enlarged facilities for sports and social activities, aiming to make the club the center of Bryan social life. The cotton market edged lower with futures down 10 points. Local spot quotations ranged from 6 to 614 cents per pound on a middling basis.

News reached Mrs. M R Bentley today of the death of her father George L Dent 85 at his Perry Oklahoma home. He died after a stroke Tuesday evening. Mrs Bentley and daughter Ann left for Perry with Mrs John Thomas of Goose Creek. Funeral services expected Friday with interment at Stillwater. Mr Dent a pioneer Oklahoma resident homesteaded in 1889 Payne county and was a noted rancher with many longtime friends.
Special to The Eagle reports cloudy conditions for Bryan and vicinity with local rains tonight and Thursday. East Texas expected to be cloudy with showers and cooler conditions, and local rains. West Texas forecasted as cloudy with probable rain and colder Thursday.
New York steel data shows United States Steel Corp unfilled orders fell for the tenth straight month. January totals dropped by 87,208 tons to 2,648,150 tons, reflecting a continuing shrinking trend.

Washington report says the senate elections subcommittee found little evidence of vote buying or corporate influence in the Heflin Bankhead Alabama senatorial contest though it cited numerous law violations. Heflin, an independent Democrat, contests the election noting many voted without appearing and others paid poll taxes.
Mrs. D. B. Cofer chairwoman of the Brazos County Health Committee and state representative Mrs. Lee J. Rountree joined County Judge A. S. McSwain and Dr. E. P. Humbert of Texas A and M College in Austin for duties tied to Brazos county health efforts.
C. E. McClain was arrested in Houston at Brazos county request, brought to Bryan by Sheriff J. H. Reed and Constable Horace Reed, and jailed on burglary charges. He allegedly entered Dr. Will B. Barclay’s office last Saturday night, taking money, clothing, surgical instruments and a revolver, with all recovered except part of the six shooter.
The sixth annual Dairy Manufacturing Short Course run by Texas A and M College enters its final day of meetings. The program adopts a laboratory style with Thursday and Friday to be completed by individual work. O C Gerhardt of Phenix Dairy Houston aided the sessions as dairy men and Kream and Row Club students attended as guests.
Judge W F Robertson stated the Red River Bridge Company withdrew its appeal of a 165000 claim against the highway commission. The suit argued the Denison free bridge opening violated a contract. Attorney General J W Allred said Terral Bridge Co must return 15000 paid on a similar claim.
M. M. McWhirter of the Security State Bank in McCamey has a patent pending on a cellophane coin wrapper, claiming it will meet strong demand from banks nationwide.
About 400 to 500 people mainly from Bryan attended a barbecue at the Reliance Baptist Church Tuesday night to aid the fund for church debt. The event at the school house featured solo numbers, a ventriloquist act by W. O. Alexander and his Talking Cadet, the Cargill Orchestra, and the Reliance Community club dancers in cowboy costumes. The fundraiser, planned after years of gifts of land and church painting, netted a little more than $200, to help pay off the remaining debt.

A three judge federal court upheld the statute empowering the railroad commission to prevent wastage of natural gas in the injunction suit of F. C. Henderson and others against the commission. It operates a plant in the Panhandle field to extract gasoline from gas.

In Scranton Pennsylvania two men were attacked by gunmen using sawed off shotguns during early morning hours. Jacob Levine age 30 was killed and Edward Weiss age 25, previously charged with silk robbery, was critically wounded as the assailants fled.
Secretary of War Hurley told the house insular committee that Philippine independence is impractical at present due to Far Eastern troubles. He warned freedom could lead to anarchy and revolution since islanders are not developed enough to sustain a stable government if freed.
