Mississippi House Passes Anti Evolution Bill
Jackson February 10 The Mississippi House of Representatives approved the anti evolution measure by a 76 to 32 vote after three hours of debate. The bill bans teaching that man descended from animals in state supported schools and imposes penalties including fines up to 500 dollars and contract cancellation. A substitute bill proposed by Representatives Evans and Hickey was debated alongside amendments, including an extreme proposal to burn violators at the stake, which was ruled out of order. Representative E K Windham urged the harsher punishment. A. B. Goodman visited Bryan Tuesday.
