Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Harrison hosted a festive buffet at their West 26th Street home with Christmas decorations and warm hospitality. Mrs. C. O. Henderson returns to Bryan after holidays with her parents in Llano. eight siblings gathered for the first time in years. Miss Ralphana Searcy leaves for Hempstead then Houston to attend a Rice Hotel event hosted by Mrs. W. O. Warriner.
The A and M College Social Club held its Christmas Eve party in the Y M C A lobby. Guests included college families with hostesses from the ladies of engineering and forestry. Mrs F C Bolton and Mrs E O Siecke chaired entertainment. Santa distributed candy and popcorn balls. refreshments followed in the chapel.
In Austin on December 28, the push to keep the gasoline tax at current levels beyond its scheduled 2 cent per gallon cut is growing. State Highway Commission secretary Claude Teer said the Fortieth Legislature set the rate to drop automatically on September 1, and the North and South Highway Club from San Saba and nearby counties join calls to maintain the existing levy.
Colonel Charles Lindbergh began his goodwill flight to Guatemala as Oklahoma senators moved to form an impeachment court against Governor Johnston and top officials. National Guard troops were mobilized at the state capitol to secure the session, while Lindbergh’s mother accompanied and then departed for Detroit.
Dallas reports heavy general rains across almost all Texas with a sharp temperature drop forecast for tomorrow. Bryan saw one of the year's heaviest totals at 2.65 inches.
J O Tucker was knocked unconscious about 6 15 last night when struck by a Stephan Ice and Bottling Co truck on the street between Sebesta s and Groginsky s stores. He soon recovered consciousness and felt much better today. He expects to return to work in a few days, noting the truck had no lights and that the driver did not see him until after the accident.
Mr and Mrs N Lobello of the city entertain their son Leon Lobello a State University Austin student and daughter Annette Lobello at their home with guest Miss Mildred Cook of Hillsboro. The house party will run until January 2 when Annette returns to Central City Commercial College in Waco and Leon resumes at the University of Texas Austin.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caywood who lost their home to fire were surprised by old Santa Claus at a Free Baptist church gathering at Mrs. J. W. Hamilton’s home on West 26 Street. Friends presented gifts, baskets, and cheer to the couple and their guests.
Mose Tubb, 50, was shot and killed by Deputy Sheriff Jerry Matthews who went to quell a disturbance at the man's quarters. The officer said he fired after the suspect swung an ax, the handle broken across the shoulder. Matthews was placed under $1,000 bond awaiting grand jury action.
G. D. Fairbanks calls grape growing in the lower Rio Grande Valley the best bet for the region. He notes sandy soil retains moisture, wells supply water, and one 300 foot well can water 10 to 15 acres. Expected yields exceed California timing with several vineyards already bearing next May near Monte Christo Hidalgo County.
The University of Texas will offer first golf classes for women as part of regular physical training. A two thirds of a city block plot will form a nine hole course near the campus by year’s start. Classes limited to four to six students, led by Miss Janet Wood with instruction in driving putting and general tactics.
The Ford plane carrying Mrs Evangeline Lindbergh landed in Brownsville today en route from Mexico City to Detroit. The arrival confirms Mrs Lindbergh's return amid ongoing public interest in her travels and safety.
Rockdale, Dec 28 Officers pursue theory Postmaster Elmer I Waide 32 died after a head injury in front of the Wilson hotel Sunday night. Doctors say an automobile could not have caused the wound and he died in Cameron hospital. No arrests yet.
In Houston on December 28, United States Marshals W. H. Meyers and Eugene Hutchinson say prisoners leaving Harris County Jail opt for ham and eggs. They note inmates tire of boiled fare like stew and potatoes after a month or two and crave fried food with grease.
In El Paso on December 28 Thomas Hickman, father of William E. Hickman, said he would disown his son and be content to let the law punish him after William confessed to slaying Marion Parker. He added he hoped his son was truthful about not murdering the girl and called kidnapping bad enough.
The University of Texas Bryan Club will host a dance at Elk's Hall Thursday night led by Lynwood Boyett assistant yell leader. Plans seek Steve Gardner Hokum King orchestra with orange and white decor and favors of confetti and streamers. The club makes its first such entertainment and invites all.
Washington dispatch reports President Coolidge signed a bill allowing E. T. Everhart son in law of Albert Fall to testify in the Teapot Dome conspiracy case without incriminating himself.
Secretary Mellon reported to Congress that 103,858,687 dollars in illegally collected taxes were refunded and about 247,000 people benefited. The list named many notables receiving awards from a few cents to 100,000 dollars, including Mrs. Florence Rose of Marquette Michigan who received 17 cents.
Andrew Gentry aged 54 years 9 months 17 days died at the family home in Bryan Texas Sunday night at 1130 oclock after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Shiloh church Tanky Grimes county. Burial was in Tanky cemetery. He is survived by his wife one son and three daughters Herschell Zelma Ivy Annette all of Bryan one brother R Gentry Pankey Grimes county Texas.

Ruth Millet aged three daughter of Mrs Henry Millet East Standard Heights Baton Rouge died after swallowing a toy balloon that lodged in her larynx. The balloon arrived as a bread premium and the child was rushed to a sanitarium where doctors spent two hours attempting to save her.
Railroad agents report the onion acreage around 3500 to 4000 acres, roughly unchanged from last year, while overall vegetable acreage rises notably in carrots and beets. Spinach is larger and beginning to move from the area, a key Texas shipping point for the crop.
Funeral for Mrs. J. H. Wilson held Tuesday at her Hearne home. Rev. C. E. Bullock led services with interment in Norwood Cemetery. Survived by husband three sons two daughters and other relatives. Burial directed by McCullough Dansby Company of Bryan.
Miss Eugenia Cochran daughter of Mr and Mrs H N Cochran of Bryan will attend the Student Volunteer convention in Detroit December 28 to January 2 as one of nine Texas Woman's College delegates. Her picture appeared in today's Fort Worth Star Telegram. She is a prominent member of the First Methodist church and active in the Epworth League.
Miss Ida Parker of this city mourns the death of her brother Frank W. Parker of Fort Worth who passed away December 27, 1927 at 10 o clock after a three week illness. She had been at his bedside for several days. Funeral services will be held Thursday in Fort Worth.
Churches in the College area along with Cottonwood and Bethel presented Rev. R L Brown and his wife with many gifts during the holidays. Members delivered cakes meats canned dainties linens laces and various items while the Baptist Students Union at College and the orchestra officers offered appreciation with silver book ends.
Funeral services for Mrs. J C Davidson aged 66 were held at the McCulloch Dansby chapel in Bryan at 2 PM and at Bright Light church in Harvey community at 3 PM conducted by Rev R L Brown and Rev J J Tatum. Interment followed in Bright Light cemetery with pallbearers Clyde Goen Marshall Peters Irwin Todd Douglas Peters Jack Sandifer and Aubrey Jones. Mrs Davidson died at a sanitarium in El Paso Texas leaving a husband a daughter and two sons as survivors.
Two men died in Chicago as police suspect a renewed gang conflict after the holiday truce. Charles Miller, a beer runner, was shot in a restaurant and a man named John Davis was fatally wounded at an 8 hospital.
Dec 28 report says two Cisco bank robbers still hide in dense cedar country between South Bend and Oil City. A vast posse led by Ranger Captain Tom Hickman scouted acre by acre with officers from Young Stephens and Eastland counties. Ranger sergeant M T Konzagk ius flew for reconnaissance but no trace found by mid afternoon.
The Bryan Lions Club heard a musical program on Tuesday led by Maurice Schulman. Leola Day and Corinne Day sang popular songs to enthusiastic reception. Jimmie Page also performed with strong applause. January program committee includes Chairman Bob Armstrong Joe Kaplan and Harold Sanders.
Rev. R. E. Day and his family were presented with a $204 check from the First Baptist church members as a Christmas token. A letter left on his library table expressed love and appreciation for the pastor and family during the season.
O J Walker facing murder charge in the fatal shooting of Pat Underwood near Allen Farm was granted 1000 bond yesterday. His brother Frank left for Marshall to post bond while J Walker remains jailed. An examining trial also granted 1000 bond for Robert Jackson charged with the Otis McGrew murder near Allen Farm.
Cotton futures declined 10 to 13 points while local spot quotes stood at 19.25 to 20.25 cents per pound.
