Wreckage of a Christmas excursion train was searched for victims as Canadian National Railways officials opened an investigation into last night's collision near Hamilton Ontario. At least 15 were killed and many injured, with several women among the identified victims. An open switch was cited as the apparent cause of the Detroit to Toronto express colliding with the excursion at a siding.
Ray Antone, son of Mr. and Mrs. B D Antone, was up today after ten days in bed with malaria fever. San Angelo visitors Mr. and Mrs. Lipscomb Anderson and children Dorothy Pauline and John Eldon arrived to spend Christmas with Mrs. Velma Graham and Miss Marie Graham. Mr. J E Moody and daughter Mary Beth of Hamlin visit N F Lockerds. Mrs. Rh A Harrison improves after throat infection. Mr. and Mrs. E E Churchill and son from Houston left after Christmas with Mrs. Churchill’s sister’s family, the Wylies Higgs.
Levelland Texas December 26 49 year old Ben Alsup tenement farmer is jailed on murder charges after shooting his daughter Martha Beulah 11 at their home 12 miles northwest of town following a family quarrel An earlier disturbance at the home was brought under control by Sheriff C W Davis but Alsup remained home per the wife but the child died from the shotgun blast.
Tyler Haswell shared Christmas day with relatives at the Haswell home on West 24th street. Dr. J R Lay of Houston and his son Wynne traveled to join the family, as Haswell remains largely bedbound yet showing daily improvement in health and strength.
John E. Andrus, 94, a famed subway rider known as a "millionaire straphanger," died today in Yonkers. He earned his fortune but continued riding the subway to his work, a habit noted by locals.
An auto struck by the International Limited at a suburban crossing killed six people including four women and two men. John Burk, the driver, died. police worked to extricate another wedged beneath the locomotive as others were removed from the wreckage.
The infant daughter of Mrs. Edwin P. Black was christened Sunday evening at the First Methodist Church by Dr. L. B. Elred. The ceremony followed a Christmas carol service with tall tapers and holly decor. Godmother Miss Mildred McKenzie stood with mother and child.
Bryan business men report unusually good December sales with clear holiday optimism. Secretary D L Wilson of the Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce says merchants view this as the best Christmas business in five years, with some noting doubled December sales over 1958 and many items selling out before the final buying day. Old stock moved to be replaced by new goods and buyers favored higher quality gifts this year.
In Jal New Mexico the oil boom town north of Pecos a new Methodist church has risen amid the derricks and oil field skyline. The church stands as a sign of growth in the bustling community noted for rapid development in the oil industry.

A Christmas Eve observance at Reliance Baptist Church featured the Old Settlers and church officers on a central T shaped display with 11 young girls choir. Talks and toasts honored Baptists worldwide founders and current officers followed by songs and a farewell hymn. About a hundred attendees enjoyed fruit cake cookies and punch.
Officers arrested J. B. Henry and James Kelly on Saturday for a Friday night robbery at Sam Palermo store. About $15 worth of fruit candy and stock were taken. Both suspects are held in the county jail.
Mrs. Sarah M. Nelson aged 80 died Christmas morning after months of ill health. Funeral services were conducted at the Carson home by Rev. W. B. Breazeale and at Boonville cemetery. Survived by husband W M Nelson, three sons E R Nelson W N Nelson Joe Nelson, three daughters Lula Mc Gee E A Crowson and Mrs O G Carson, six grandsons served as pallbearers.
The Baptist Training Service officers of College Avenue Baptist Church change their meeting from Friday to Thursday night. Officers meet from 7 to 8 with a social hour at 8 meant for all members. Curtis Cobb, BTS director, announced the schedule.
The Zion Evangelical Church at Kurten postponed its slide show this evening due to slides failing to arrive. They will be shown later, but no definite date has been set, the pastor Rev. FOC Andereen said.
Scientists and technicians urged President Roosevelt to back a federal plan to control and transmit all U S electricity. They proposed a billion dollar twenty year Mississippi Valley public works program and a unified grid to create a cheap power pool. Morris Cooke said government control of transmission is fundamental and ownership of generation is not the issue. PWA officials said they will aid cities facing legal battles over municipal projects.
Richard B. Shepard aged 80, a noted authority on rare Western history books, died at his Salt Lake City home on Tuesday.
The First Christian church collected a $50 offering for the Juli ette Fowler Orphans Home in Dallas. A pageant drama written by Mrs. E S Bledsoe was performed by the church choir and children during the regular evening service, centered on spreading Christmas joy.
A special jury panel of 27 men and 21 women was drawn today for Bruno Hauptmann Lindbergh kidnap trial. The panel came from the group that received the fictitious kidnap murder case booklet.
Weldon Taylor Jones died at a local clinic from double pneumonia Christmas day at 5 15 pm after a week of critical illness. He was 36, born December 21 1898 in Harvey and worked 17 years for the Texas Company in Bryan and Brazos County. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ on South Washington Avenue with burial at Old Bethel cemetery in Harvey. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named.
By December 13 Braозos County reports 11 576 bales ginned of the 1934 crop versus 17 157 bales for the 1933 crop to the same date.
Ivanhoe Commandery No. 8 Knights Templar held a Christmas observance with visiting Sir Knights. The event featured past commander's jewels presented to J. G. Peniston and W. E. Saunders, a Christmas lesson read by E. S. Bledsoe, and a piano accompaniment for the Doxology. Toasts to Grand Master Andrew D. Agnew and Grand Commander Will J. Rhea received alternate speakers.
The season's severest cold wave swept the Middle West and Texas and moved into the east with sub zero temps. Devils Lake South Dakota hit 34 below zero while Perryton and Amarillo saw low single digits above zero. Texas towns Recorded 22 to 35 degrees, with conditions varying from clear to partly cloudy as a gradual rise was forecast.
