Three armed men with two women held up John Seeley Caldwell and his wife on Bryan avenue, forced them to open the safe at the Caldwell Jewelry Store, and kidnapped them. Loot included about 10 000 in diamonds watches and cash. The group then fled to a rent house near Baker avenue tied the couple to a log, freed themselves near Kurten, and were aided back to Bryan by Clifton Steen. Police hunt possible escaped convicts linked to prior Palestine robbery. Caldwell losses estimated at 8 000 to 10 000.

Christmas Holidays Begin as Schools Close in Bryan Area
Bryan and Brazos county schools close for Christmas from Wednesday through Friday. A M College and its consolidated school end Wednesday morning at noon. All Stray Dogs To Be Taken Up After New Year
Bryan plans to appoint a dog catcher after the new year to roundup unlicensed strays. A truck with a cape will patrol the city and seize dogs lacking licenses, taking them to the city pound. If owners do not license and pay fees within four to five days, the animals will be disposed of.

Two Women Injured In Bryan Area Crash
Mrs. W. W. Harris 75 died after a car skidded on the Little Brazos approach near Hearne and plunged below a guard rail. Driver Mrs. Elon Stuart and others suffered multiple injuries. Stuart’s daughter Peggy and Mozelle Vick were bruised. Harris was en route to Temple to comfort her dying brother H. S. Newland. Harris and her husband, former Bryan mayor W. W. Harris, were longtime Bryan residents.

Harris Funeral Rites Observed Here on Monday
Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church for Mrs. Effie Newland Harris wife of W W Harris following her death from injuries in an automobile accident. Dr Thomas Gordon Watts led the service with church hymns and flowers filled the church. the burial was in Bryan City cemetery. She was born September 24 1858 in Nacogdoches county Texas and died at 75. Survived by husband three sons and two daughters. Pallbearers listed with active and honorary members.

Fountain Switch Man Dies After 50 Years in Brazos County
Thomas Uherek aged 77 years and 9 days died Sunday December 17 at 9 15 p m at his Fountain Switch home after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at 1 30 p m Monday at the family residence with Rev J B Gleissner officiating and at the grave in Smetana cemetery. Born in Czechoslovakia December 8 1856 he emigrated at age 27 and spent the last 50 years in Brazos county. Surviving are his widow two sons Tom Uherek Jr Smetana Frank Uherek Wallace and daughter Mrs Pete Krolezyk Smetana.

J L McNeal a New Baden man charged with murder in the death of his wife last Friday has been moved from Brazos county jail to Franklin jail. Robertson county officials say Mrs McNeal died of pneumonia following a ruptured lung from a beating by McNeal. Sheriff Nicholson transported him here amid threats of lynching.
