Dallas, Dec. 19 Five dollars each for any number up to 50 will be paid by Professor S W Geiser of Southern Methodist University for specimens of amphiar chis inoratus or Gorman s snake. The small brown snake reaches 10 1 2 inches and was named after the man who studied it as a new species. Professor Jacob Bell of Dallas found the snakes near Dallas 58 years ago and they were given to Harvard s museum. Geiser hopes more living specimens exist nearby and requires capture near Dallas with minimal blemish for preservation.
Tyit Heewell elected a member of the electoral college from the district and signed by Governor Dan Moody and Secretary Jane Y. McCallum. He has not yet learned when Texas electors meet or the plan to carry their presidential vote to Washington. News expected in a few days.
Congress appropriated 160 000 dollars for a federal inquiry into soil erosion causes and prevention. The Bryan Chamber of Commerce sparked the plan after a talk by A B Conner of Texas A&M. The effort drew support from the East Texas Chamber of Commerce Lions Club and congressman James P. Buchanan.
The College Episcopal church choir surprised Rev and Mrs W W Daup Tuesday night at 7 30 with Christmas greetings and music. Miss Bennie Mae Marburger announced the visit and presented a rare Italian pottery gift. Mrs Daup and Rev Daup expressed appreciation as guests were served refreshments by Mrs D B Marburger and her daughter Mrs Fritz Glitsch.
Mrs Calvin Coolidge departed Washington to visit her mother Mrs Lemira Goodhue who is ill in Northampton Massachusetts. She plans to return by the weekend.
Looters pried into the brick vault of the State Bank at Jarrell Williamson County and fled with an undetermined loss. The bank president and cashier were out of town and Jarrell lacks a town marshal. Bank employees delayed entry until the examiner arrived from Austin. As much as 6000 dollars was said to be in the vault.
Georgetown report says only items removed were from safe deposit boxes. Bank safe remained intact as burglars fled before attempting to open it.
London December 19 King George VI doctors report a continued slight improvement after a restful night. The bulletin says the king's condition is improving gradually and remains under careful observation as specialists monitor his recovery.
Mrs. O. C. Walther, 28, died in a local hospital at 3 o’clock Monday from injuries when a gas explosion at her Port Arthur home occurred as she attempted to light a gas stove. The residence was demolished and windows in an adjoining building were jarred out.
Temple December 19 contract awarded for a $40,000 two story drug store restaurant and general business building in the Scott and White hospital center. The Longley Sherrett Corporation let the contract to G. H. Baker.
Main Street becomes a fairyland as the city lights up from 22nd to 28th streets with hundreds of colorful lamps. Residents praise the display as one of Texas's most attractive city beautifications. The municipal Christmas tree and evergreen column at 2th and Main will be lit tonight to finish the holiday scheme.
Dean C. H. Winkler of Texas A and M College spoke to Bryan Lions Club on the growth of vocational teaching since federal support began about eleven years ago. He noted 24 million dollars spent last year and about one million enrolled in various schools.
Rebels seized two forts overlooking Kabul and awaited reinforcements. A British airplane was shot through the radiator and forced to land near Kabul while attempting to contact the British legation to arrange evacuation of British and Indian women and children if needed.
The annual Christmas program sponsored by the Bryan Woman's Club at the Carnegie Library auditorium was postponed indefinitely due to illness among eight participants. The club's in charge committee announced the postponement and noted the next Woman's Club meeting will be January 2 to elect officers for the following year.
A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a block of business houses in Cold Springs today. Loss is estimated at $50,000.
B B Rollo 72 died at his North Washington Avenue home Wednesday morning after a brief pneumonia illness. He was a First Baptist Bryan member, twin to the late Mrs. B M Nall, and survived by his widow and nieces and nephews including Mrs. Lamar Bethea and M G Nall. Funeral Thursday at 3:30 from the family home, interment in city cemetery.
Santa Claus visited the Dixie Theatre for a Christmas party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Morris Schulman. About 250 kids attended and received candy bags as samples of holiday joy. More than 150 toys were donated at the box office to be shared with those in need through Good Cheer.
Martin Griffin aged 48, Dayton hotel owner, was killed when an automobile overturned near Dallas. His wife, 50, was seriously injured and D. R. Davis, 30, was badly bruised as the car burned.
On December 19 federal and state officers conducted a large raid in Wink on rumors of a feud among rum runners. About thirty gambling dens were raided and closed with numerous people detained or questioned. The crackdown followed the kidnapping of cafe owner P. C. Burcham who was left bound on the desert and later found alive.
Alpine officials announce a strong year with $29,873.34 in collections and a per capita figure of $7.90, as detailed in the annual report prepared by secretary Mrs. W. B. Hamilton.
William Posey Moore died at 6 15 pm Tuesday after a brief pneumonia illness. He was 47 years old and had lived in Brazos county for 15 years, formerly of Mexia. He leaves a widow Bertha and a son Billy, plus his mother, sister, and brother. Funeral services were held December 19 at his residence with burial in Bryan city cemetery. He was a prominent Bryan businessman and Magnolia Petroleum Company agent.
Bryan Chapter No. 223 invites members to a social meeting on December 37 at 8 oclock to initiate and host the District Deputy Grand Matron Mrs. Belle M. Brown of College Station. Afterward a Christmas program for families with a tree gift exchange is planned.
An A and M student special on the Missouri Pacific derailed near Wellborn seven miles from the college. Engineer G H Burns fireman J H Graves and H Selman escaped with minor injuries after jumping from the engine. The wreck caused by wet weather and a double reverse swing left the engine and several cars off the rails but no passengers were injured.
Allen Academy basketball under Coach T F Wilson opened the season with a 25 to 17 win over Navasota and followed by a 31 to 9 victory over Franklin. Key players included Cunningham Nelson and Bomar.
Six miners remain entombed after a mine explosion at Black Diamond Company in Drakesboro Kentucky. A rescue crew is at the scene as authorities assess conditions and possible ventilation to reach those trapped.
Washington December 19. Pan American conference special committee on the Bolivian Paraguayan dispute met today to seek reconciliation. If an immediate plan of action is agreed, a plenary session would be convened late this afternoon to ratify the proposal.
Mrs M B Bentley announces no meeting on Friday December 21 due to conflict with a Magonic meeting. Rainbow Girls will meet on December 25 instead.
The cotton market edged lower on Wednesday with futures around 12 cents and spot quotes ranging from 15.70 to 29.00 cents.

Raymond L. Murray a Port Arthur attorney filed as a candidate for the vacant senate chair created by the death of Senator H. F. Tripplet of Beaumont. Several other Port Arthur and Beaumont men are expected to file within days.
Allen Academy announces the Christmas holiday period begins Thursday afternoon. Examinations are underway and students will be home for the holidays once completed. School resumes the morning of January 3.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the death penalty for Colley and another man named Lott in a slaying case. Both were convicted previously and granted a new trial.
