Austin August 26 The fixing of a standard loaf of bread for Texas was to be considered at a meeting of Texas bakers with Commissioner of Weights and Measures F C Weinert. The standard loaf will define weight and require labeling. If a pound loaf is adopted they may permit two pound loaves and half loaves of one half pound. fourteen or fifteen ounce loaves would be unlawful. Okmulgee Pledge Seeks Old Clothes for Months

In Okmulgee Oklahoma on Saturday about a thousand men signed a pledge to wear old clothes for three months or until prices fall. The pledge covers old suits collars shirts socks and overcoats. Austin reports a new case of sleeping sickness at Rockdale Texas to the state health department. State Health Officer C W Goddard notes it is the fifteenth Texas case since the disease appeared and the first in some time with few fatalities. Texarkana August 26. Engineer Hemphill was fatally injured and Fireman Dyer was hurt when the engine and two coaches left the rails on the Cotton Belt at Bassett Tex. Passengers were jarred but none seriously hurt. The enginemen were from Tyler.

Supply Company of STH National Guard Opens to Enlistment

The rolls are opened for enlistment in the supply company 8th Texas national guard. Captain Brandon reports plans to recruit to about 35 men, with potential expansion to 75 as a line company. Officers named are Second Lieutenant James Sullivan and Harry Estill. There is hope the Bryan troop 7th cavalry may also recruit, with shared armory to gain better quarters.
