Murder Charge in Houston Shooting Ties to Brazos County

Frank Cash an Italian farmer living on Westheimer road is jailed in Houston on a murder charge after John Henry Whiting a negro farm hand was shot near Louisiana street and Preston avenue. Witnesses say Will Whiting confronted Cash, who fired when Whiting drew a knife. Cash previously lived in Brazos bottom and had a prior suspended sentence for killing a negro in Brazos county.

Villa followers kill go in train hold up in Mexico

El Paso reports that Villa followers halted a northbound Mexican Central train at Consuelo Chihuahua 50 miles south of Chihuahua City. Twenty six passengers and 40 soldiers were killed. 70 soldiers and civilians wounded. bodies were stripped of clothing and valuables.

Texan General Graves chosen to lead Siberia expedition

Waco August 13. The War Department selects Major General William S Graves to command the Siberian expedition. Graves is a Gatesville native and West Point graduate who rose from major to major general since the war began. He has led the eighth division at Palo Alto and studied modern warfare in France.

Army training contingent departs A and M college

Eight weeks of intensive auto mechanics and related trades end as 800 men from the second army training detach ment leave for southeastern camps for further military training before active service. Some stay to instruct incoming units and about twelve head to Camp Pike Arkansas. a new 800 man contingent arrives soon from replacement camps due to depleted class 1.
