Breen Sutton 19 of Ennis dies after a truck crash wrecking the Grant Lumber office on South College Avenue. Frank Cox 25 of Fort Worth is in critical condition with burns and multiple injuries. The Houston owned oil well supplies truck, driven by Sutton, crashed after failing to navigate College Avenue. Fire and rescue teams battled flames as residents woke to the crash.

Zion Lutheran church at Kurten will hold its annual picnic Sunday afternoon on the school house grounds after the 10:30 morning service at the Kurten school house. Rev. A J Meyer of Houston will preach. Among the invited speakers are state senate candidates Albert Stone and J Alton York.
Tom Chambers of Bruner Battery and Electric travels to Houston for a Carter Carburetor company regional school at Beard and Stone Electric. The first three days cover Carter carburetors in general followed by separate sessions on various auto carburetor makes.
Nelson Fuller, son of Mr and Mrs F Db Fuller and ex Bryan Daily Eagle staffer, is listed as an incorporator of Colvert Publishing Co which prints the Nacogdoches Sentinel where Fuller serves as editor.
Brazos county commissioners met Monday to review the current budget and establish the tax rate. Officials expect several days will be required to complete the process.
Plans call for an all day working at Alexander Cemetery this Friday. Volunteers are urged to come with lunch and plan to spend the day helping keep the cemetery in good condition.
Additional candidates for county or precinct office filed their third expense accounts. Sheriff Roy Nunn reported 315,553 dollars, Guy Harris 270 dollars, W. H. McDonald 187.87 dollars, D. D. Jolly 42 dollars, and W. B. Barry 89.50 dollars.
C G Repass on East 28th street reported his hen hatched nine baby chicks after leaving the nest due to mites. He found the chicks Sunday and noted the warm weather seemingly substituting for the hen.
City officials and business committee members met at City Hall to discuss a new telephone franchise replacing the Southwest Telephone Company whose franchise expires next month. City attorney F. L. Henderson is to provide legal guidance by next Wednesday, while Manager R. G. Williams will gather financial data to assess the system’s earnings and use. Officials aim to ensure the best possible service in Bryan.
Miss Willie Rogers, librarian, announces a gift of six books to the Bryan Carnegie library from Miss Anthonette Scardino. The Rotarian magazine is also expected to be on the library table next year per Miss Rogers.
Andy Williams a Negro was arrested by Constable D D Jolly and Horace Reed Sunday night on the charge of carrying a revolver. This is Williams third arrest on this charge.
The Associated Press reports an extreme Texas heat wave with 118 degrees in McKinney Collin County and 100 degree readings statewide. The heat dries soils and withers crops while hot winds and sun cause widespread suffering, including four deaths and many prostrations.
Official records show last week air reached 100 degrees Saturday and 103 degrees Sunday the season's high. The week's low was 67 degrees on Tuesday and rainfall totaled .20 inches by Sunday. Temperatures listed follow.
Judge W. C. Davis adjourned the Robertson county district court for the mid-summer term and will hold no court locally until Sept 14. He will preside in the Second Administrative District of 26 counties, where local judges are disqualified, with a six-week Bryan term to start then.
Ralph W. Barry of Navasota withdraws as candidate for state representative from the 26th District a runoff with W. T. McDonald of Brazos county. He cites unforeseen constraints and thanks supporters in Navasota and Grimes county.
Brazos county board of education reaffirmed discontinuing the Fickey school and transferring pupils and teacher to Kurten. The apportionment from the county permanent school fund set at 50 cents per capita with 6400 pupils and $3200 total. Budget decisions postponed to September. rural district trustees meet Saturday at 2 o clock to set budgets for the coming year. Board members present: C M Bethany chair man N C Cole C harles Merka Smetana Joe Locke Tabor and George B Wilcox.
Temple August 12. Major Eric Huquinius chief of surveys L M Baugh area engineer and J Mack Jones instrument man went to the Navasota reservoir area Wednesday to begin preliminary inspection surveys. Jones will run levels and operate from Franklin with Baugh remaining two or three days and Jones permanently.
L A Spell and Mrs Jack Johnson will lead the Earle Grahame Post No 159 American Legion and its auxiliary for the coming year. Officers named include Raymond Jones vice commander and Paul R Pierce adjutant, with re elected post officers and a full auxiliary slate. Delegates to the Beaumont state convention were named for both groups. Plans for the yearly quilt fundraiser and junior pajama gifts to the veterans hospital were discussed.
Ivan Jones twenty five with the forestry department at A and M College was injured Saturday night when his car ran off old Highway No six at a double turn crossing the Southern Pacific railroad. The vehicle overturned into a ditch. He was taken to Wilkerson Memorial Clinic with a severe scalp wound and multiple cuts. After a day in hospital he returned home to College Park and was reported improving.
Mrs. Lee LoBello returned from Dallas where she served on the Italian Columbus Day State Centennial committee. The group plans events to generate interest for Italian Day on October 11 and Columbus Day on October 12 at the Texas Centennial.
Bryan and Brazos County leaders discussed a campus housing shortage as Texas A and M enrollment rises. A new survey of Bryan will inventory houses apartments and rooms to prepare for a high fall registration. College officials noted potential new dorms and urged local cooperation to ease overflow. A trade extension briefing announced Wheelock trip with a 6 30 departure and urged broader business attendance.
