Lightning hit the Smetana school Thursday night causing structural splits and damage. Heavy rains from Thursday to Friday threaten floods on the Brazos and Navasota rivers, with potential Highway 6 closures near the Grimes county line.

Stephen F. Austin High School students from Bryan won both first and second in the District 17 typing contest with Anna Jo Bond at 56 words per minute and Ernest Sample second.
