Upshur county farmers abandon half and half cotton as markets vary. Some sell below current long staple prices while others fail to sell. Extra long staple cotton commands premiums for balloon tire makers, but good quart size cotton remains in demand.
Jinx Tucker notes Christopher Cortemeglia of Bryan High shows fine form in S. M. JU track team field events. The former Bryan star may become a standout football player next year, with speed and power but needs to improve defense and quick thinking to reach his potential.

Mr and Mrs John William Greer announce the marriage of their daughter Inez May to Mr James Harold Hill on Friday the third of April 1925 in Winter Park Florida. The Hills will reside at Boulevard Apartments Winter Park after April fifteenth. The Greers formerly lived in Bryan where Mr Greer served as city manager for several years.
Dirt was broken Monday for laying the foundation of the cottage home of Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Poole on College Boulevard near the Boy Scout house. The frame five room dwelling will include built in furniture and modern conveniences with open porches. It will join a growing list of cottage homes on College boulevard contributing to Bryan’s growth.
A county Farm Bureau meeting at the Brazos County Court House with about 75 members elected officers for the year. Jno Stasny became president, J A Henry vice president, J A Tobias treasurer, Krm. Buchanan district cotton agent, R F E Buchanan secretary and reporter. The advisory board was selected including W H George and J A Rychlik. The December report noted 1924 cotton payments of 19 cents per pound to members with plans to organize the county for 1925 operations. Brazos delivered over 800 bales, totaling about 8000 dollars in payments to members.

Mrs J R Wright presided as commander with an all-woman officer slate. A cake drawing awarded to Mrs Forrest Jones and a social hour followed with refreshments served.
Guy Harris and Vistor Harris of Bryan were initiated into Hemphill Masonic Lodge of Wheelock Friday night taking their Masters Degree. They were joined by Dr. C A Searcy Walter Holden S C Hoyle and Tom Powers. Hundreds of Masons from Franklin Hearne North Zulch attended. Refreshments followed with lectures by Dr. Searcy and S C Hoyle illustrating Masonry.

Sunday morning on College avenue about a mile from town Mrs A B Ewing owner of a Ford and J R Fain collided with a Ford driven by a Gulf Tire Company employee in Houston. Mrs Ewing suffered minor damage while the other car had greater damage. No injuries were reported. The Gulf Tire Company will cover repairs.
Richard Crosby of A and M College was bruised and cut after a car driven by Dr. Lamar Jones struck him on College Avenue. Crosby was hurled about 15 feet, treated at the hospital, and reported only slightly worse for the accident which authorities labeled unavoidable.
Kurten residents enjoyed a Saturday meeting of the Kurten Community Club with Hamp Buchanan presiding. Miss Johnnie Saho played piano as the audience sang, and Leland Sherwood Marsh and McDonald presented a multi-part tribute to Texas with poems, pictures, songs, and talks highlighting Alamo heroes and Texas life.
J. J. Brown of Austin assistant director of Vocational Agriculture in the Texas state department of education suffered an acute illness while traveling from Hearne to College Station. He stopped at Bryan Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover enough to leave this afternoon. A 1912 A&M College graduate, Brown was accompanied by C. Davis, director of agriculture.
I. G. N. announces reduced rates for San Jacinto Fiesta and Battle of Flowers in San Antonio. Tickets sold April 18 to 24 include return by April 27. trains arriving before noon on the 25th have return by the 27th. Special low rates apply for tickets sold April 28 with trains arriving the morning of the 24th and return by the 25th. See local ticket agent for full details.

Kinsey and two sons from Easterly travel to Bryan for a pecan budding demonstration. The county agent announces pecan day will be May 6 rather than April 6. Kinsey, living on Dr. A Caswell Ellis’ farm, aims to learn budding methods and will join the crew at Edge on May 6.
The Brazos Chapter Order of De Molays elected officers for 1925 at a Saturday 8 p.m. meeting in the Masonic building. James Pipkin M C Geo Martin S C Ewin Gaby J C. New members spoke on the work and the next meeting will be in the Masonic hall with parents urged to attend.
Brazos county Red Cross secretary Mrs. Albert Buchanan will collect cash gifts for relief in storm struck Southern Illinois Missouri and Indiana. W M Baxter Jr appeals for funds and directs immediate forward to division headquarters in St Louis. No local canvass will be conducted.
The Aggie Band will suspend regular Sunday afternoon concerts for two weeks. Band conductor Richard J. Dunn announced that many members will be away this Sunday, and next Sunday the entire group travels to Corsicana to enter the East Texas Band Teachers Association contest.
Wm Hudspeth of Tabor was reported to have traveled to Bryan for activities on Saturday.
The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce board debated endorsing the advertising and soliciting committee to deter low merit schemes and prevent fraud. New members were added to the membership committee, and many applicants were rejected for lack of merit. The group urged public backing to sustain the committee and urged individuals to demand endorsements from solicitors.
A rubbish heap behind the building housing James Drug Store No 8 and the Campus Grocery at College caught fire threatening destruction. The College fire department arrived promptly and with chemicals prevented major damage to stocks and fixtures. At 8 o'clock last night the blaze was controlled.

Mr and Mrs Sterling P Hart announce the marriage of their daughter La Douska to Mr Yvonn Cameron Myres on Wednesday April 1 1925 in Commerce Texas. At home Greenville Texas. The bride is granddaughter of Mrs W J Walker of this city and many friends extend sincere congratulations.
L. M. Haltom of Benchley is in Bryan for a day of local business and social engagements.
While cleaning up the rear of their home Mr Cochran split boars with an axe when the head flew off. Mrs Cochran caught the axe but the blade cut her hand badly gashing a finger and nearly severing it. The wound is healing well now with a fortunate ending.

It notes 12 office conferences, 82 office tours, 1 committee meeting, 5 prenatal calls, 2 instructive infant and pre school calls, 2 maternity calls, 14 school children calls, 11 miscellaneous calls, 2 personal and home hygiene classes, total attendance 117, infant and pre school conferences 4, total attendance 22, 15 schools visited, 77 school children inspected with 44 defective and 8 corrected, 5 classroom talks, 48 notes to parents.
Joe T McGee injured after his foot caught while alighting from a car with George Edge. He struck his head on the pavement near the City National Bank about 2 20 this afternoon and was rushed to medical attention as a crowd gathered.
