Senate Resolution Orders ICC Inquiry On Strike Situation

In Washington on April 9 the senate adopted a resolution directing the Interstate Commerce Commission to investigate the strike situation and report back. Switchmen Strike Begins to Crumble in Returns

Chicago April 9 switchmen started returning to work in small groups after nine days on strike. Brotherhood leaders, while not claiming victory, say reports from several roads show men returning and engines running. Total idle railroad labor crowds 26,497 plus indirect unemployment. Women Win Jewett Texas City Election

In Jewett Texas this week women swept the city election and elected all eight officials except the male marshal. Mrs J T Adkisson became mayor and four other women, including Mrs R H Evans, Mrs J L Barron, Mrs W R Dotson, and Mrs Coakey Evans, were elected alderwomen with R F Dunn serving as marshal. The city thus turns municipal affairs to women for the first time in Texas.

The City National Bank of Bryan offers a free $300 trip for 125 to 150 Brazos County boys aged 10 to 18 enrolled in the Boys Agricultural Club Work. The Texas Farm Boys Special, supervised by A and M Extension Service and the Texas Chamber of Commerce, travels by Pullman cars with a Washington visit and Mount Vernon stop.
