Robert Carroll Dies at Home in Iola Grimes County

Robert Carroll died Tuesday at 9 am after a brief illness at his father W. E. Carroll’s home in Iola Grimes County. Funeral from the family home at Iola on Wednesday at 10 am. burial at Concord Cemetery. He worked for Wallace Printing Company in the city and lived with Mr and Mrs Homer Bond. Survived by his father three brothers and two sisters. The Eagle extends sympathy.

Pecan budding interest noted by county agent

County Agent C. L. Benson reports visitors Tom Peyton of Benchley Charter Distefano and Tony Scarpinato of Brazos Bottom showed interest in pecan budding last Saturday. Peyton seeks budding on several hundred native young trees while Distefano mentions a native tree on the Sala Diner farm bearing fine paper shell nuts weighing a pound for 32 nuts. Benson will ask Dean E J Kyle and other pecan specialists to study the tree for potential propagation.

Stock Sold Fast Sets New Record For Bryan Building and Loan

The sixth series of 625 shares valued at $125,000 was sold in 22 minutes by Secretary Sam E Eberstadt, setting a record pace for the Bryan Building and Loan Association. Since 1919 the organization has grown to about 1.5 million dollars in capital with 135 homes built in Bryan and monthly dues totaling around $9,000. Centenarian Grandma Garrett Dies in Wheelock at 108

Grandma Garrett, 108, of Wheelock near Hearne, Texas, died at home after living in Texas since 1873. Mother of eight, widow early, she plowed fields to support her family and was a Baptist church member for 90 years. Burial followed in Wheelock Cemetery with several local ministers officiating. her Bible used at services was over two centuries old.
