Brazos River Navigation Nears Three-Foot Depth by Spring
Government engineers report progress on Brazos river dredging from Richmond to Velasco and toward Old Washington. A 100 mile section should reach three feet depth within six to seven months, enabling navigation from Galveston and Houston to West Bay and beyond. The upper section near Richmond is nearly finished apart from rock work, with a fleet of dredges and pile drivers in use. A steamboat fleet is planned to move spring crops, and local citizens may invest in stock for river trade. The Seaton oil prospect in Grimes County gains attention, with a rig moved from Millican and drilling on Moonshine’s Mineral Springs property making rapid progress. No drill results disclosed.
