Roosevelt Receives Enthusiastic Welcome in Richmond

President Roosevelt is honored with a seven hour visit to Richmond. A large crowd cheered as the presidential train arrived and ceremonies, a banquet at the Masonic temple, and tours of historic sites followed. The president praised Virginia and the South for leadership and progress and thanked residents for their warm reception.

Attempted assault on District Attorney Jerome by disgruntled witness

Jacob Meyer tried to batter the door of the New York District Attorney W. G. Jerome's office shouting he killed him over unpaid fees for his testimony in Red Light investigations. Police found morphine and a syringe on him. He had testified against Inspector Cross Captain Hardily and Wardman Hoagan and was jailed six months for intoxication and disorderly conduct on Blackwell's Island.

St. Petersburg reports an imperial rescript awarding Count Lamsdorff minister of foreign affairs the Vladimir order of the first class for his notable wartime and peace negotiation services. Lieutenant General Linovitch is named aide de camp to Emperor Nicholas.

Grandfather's Revenge Disinherits Grandson Over Bite Claim

In Shreveport on October 19, the will of Marcus A. Bonner filed by the administrator disinherits his grandson J. W. Scribner. The motive cited is a bite on the grandfather’s leg inflicted by the grandson over twelve years ago. The will deprives Scribner of lands and property across Caddo, Natchitoches and Red River parishes.

Bryan Addresses Tokio Crowd With Clear Speech

Hon. W. J. Bryan spoke to about 1000 people in Tokio with Count Okuma presiding. His forty minute address appealed to students and adults alike, earning praise for clarity. He lunched with Count Okuma but cannot attend a public reception due to time.

Decision Divided on Demurrer in Meat Packer Case

Federal Judge Humphreys ruled against the packers on odd numbered counts charging conspiracy in restraint of trade while sustaining the demurrer to even numbered counts alleging monopoly. Tangier reports false on officers released. favorable action expected.
