Cleve Sparks fined one dollar and costs for disturbing the peace. John Grays fined one hundred dollars and costs for carrying a pistol. James Brush fined five dollars and costs for simple assault. Lige Reddin and Will Garrett cited for carrying pistol and simple assault. Probate business opened with wills of Capt. S. M. Derden, Mrs. M. J. Tabor, and Mrs. L. Tiebout admitted to probate.
The Mutual Life Insurance Co of New York mails voting ballots to policyholders with a request to return names and addresses for duplicates. The Texas Free Baptist Association meets in Beckville Panola county beginning tomorrow for four days with delegates from Brazos county churches. Bryan church delegates include Walter Lowry M S Edge and J J Tatum. Rev J J Tatum and T A Searcy will also attend. The Bryan church extends a call to Rev Tatum who has served a year and aims to continue serving. he and his family are well regarded locally.
A group of citizens met in Waco and formed a permanent organization to petition the McLennan County Democratic executive committee to meet October 27 and move to resubmit to Democratic voters the question of whether J. W. Bailey should again represent them in the Senate. The document avoids specific charges but claims a large majority oppose Bailey's re-election and will circulate the petition statewide.
The Texas division of the Red Cross association held its annual meeting at the fair grounds auditorium in Dallas. Members assembled at the emergency hospital, escorted by Spanish American War veterans, then moved to the kindergarten booth for dinner followed by addresses, music, and a reception in the auditorium.

The Supreme Court refused to grant a writ of certiorari in Cumberland Telephone Co. v. City of Nashville. The dispute involved local taxation of the company's property within Nashville and the court sustained the city's contentions.

Rev. L. R. Scott, aged 66, a Baptist minister and former Confederate soldier in the Third Texas Cavalry Hood’s brigade, died at his Dallas home. Born in Spartanburg District sixty six years ago he served as pastor in Paris Sherman and Corsicana and had pursued missionary work for about six years.
