Advices brought by the Empress of Japan report Hongkong and Kowloon suffer catastrophic typhoon damage on Sept. 18. Ten thousand dead, 17 vessels wrecked, 2,000 junks swamped, 80 percent of small crafts destroyed, wharves damaged, and losses estimated over 20 million dollars. Automobile Explodes After Trolley Pole Collision
Four occupants of a high speed Detroit avenue car in Lakewood were injured when the vehicle struck a trolley pole and exploded. Victims include Miss Anna Schmittel and Miss Hulda Ackerman both severely burned, Benjamin Camra with head burns, and George Hartigen with a missing eye and fractured skull. Car valued at $4,200 owned by M J Mandelbaum. Camra said machinery failure caused the crash and explosion. Fifteen gallons of gasoline ignited, engulfing the occupants.

Woman Kills Husband in Self Defense in Chicago
In Chicago early Tuesday Mrs. Sarah Alcopa shot and killed her husband who chased her with a butcher knife. She fled to a bedroom, grabbed a revolver, and fired twice, hitting him in the temple and lung. he died instantly. Alcopa, a 39 year old cigarmaker, was arrested. Jealousy of a house guest named John Minerino is cited as motive.
