Electrician dies after attempting rescue in Shreveport incident

Wil lam J. Walker an electrician for the Shreveport Gas Electric Light and Power company was electrocuted while helping fellow worker Manuel Sherman a negro helper. Sherman climbed a pole without a stool and touched a charged wire causing both men to be shocked and hang on the line before Walker died after three hours of medical efforts. Walker had come to Shreveport eight months earlier from Charleston South Carolina to live with his family.

Oil Struck in Mineral Wells Well

RB Pyle, a Mineral Wells resident, struck a pocket of oil in his own well at 247 feet this morning. The oil depth reached about thirty feet in minutes and is described as high quality lubricating oil. Indicators suggest nearby oil may be abundant with more drilling likely.

Man Found Dead in Hamburg Miss Suspected Foul Play

Robert Coker a Yazoo and Mississippi Valley railroad section foreman was found dead near his Hamburg home after three pistol shots were heard. A former resident of Athens Texas he leaves a wife and two young children and had been in Hamburg about a year.

Editor files criminal libel suit in Taylor court

In Taylor Texas on November 7 the Taylor Daily Democrat editor W T Jones filed criminal libel charges in Justice J O Frinks court against Perry Hawkins editor of the Taylor Daily Journal. A warrant was issued for Hawkins arrest.

Racine Wis Nov 8 Mrs Alexander Horlick wife of a prominent businessman in Racine claims to be rightful owner of 324 acres in central and outlying Austin Texas. The land was secured by Arnold Roberts a Mexican war veteran who died several years ago in the past.

During a horse race at the Lexington Fair grounds a stray dog dashed across the track in the home stretch. G W Payne's leading horse struck the animal, both horse and dog died instantly from broken necks, and jockey Barrett Haynes suffered serious injuries.

An elderly bachelor named Howell was murdered ten miles north of Henderson Texas. He lived alone and was found with a severely mutilated head, indicating a brutal killing. Police are investigating the case as a homicide with few leads.

Rutland suit awards $20,000 to widow against railroad

In Houston on November 8, judgment was entered for Mrs. Mamie Rutland against the Houston and Texas Central Railway Co for $20,000 in a case arising from the death of her husband who was asphyxiated while employed by the railroad.

Mrs. 8S. P. Mize returned to Austin yesterday after visiting Mrs. D. C. Zuber of this city. She was accompanied by her father Capt. W. P. Zuber of Iola, a noted veteran who at 85 remains active and will make his home in Austin.
