At the Hoffman House Hearst and allies plan a court contest as McClellan leads by a few thousand votes. Law committee members arrive in evening attire while Hearst voters recount reported polling place violence and unrest.
Election tallies up to Wednesday show McClellan re-elected mayor of New York with a 4,485 vote edge over Hearst. Hearst issues fraud claims while plans to contest include ballot-box review. Brooklyn, Manhattan and Bronx tallies split across boroughs. Ivins finishing third with 137,049 votes.
Returns show William S. McClellan Democrat ahead of Hearst Municipal Ownership and Ivins Republican with a 3158 plurality as late results from 51 districts were incomplete. Jerome leads in the district attorney race over Osborne and Shearn, with continued calls to contest the election from Hearst accusing Tammany of fraud and vowing a battle to protect voters.
Report from Oklahoma City shows the Sequoyah constitution totals under 25,000 of 150,900 potential voters with many towns not opening polls. Voters favored joint statehood with Oklahoma over the Sequoyah constitution, with Ardmore Purcell Chickasha Coalgate Marlow among towns where no election occurred.
