Eyewitness reports describe riots in Odessa with looting and killings. Police and soldiers alleged to march at mobs head. hundreds killed or injured. Jewish quarter devastated and many homes burned. In Los Angeles area a string of auto accidents left one dead and several injured, including Mrs. AL T Austin with a fractured skull.
The Odessa correspondent cites mass killings and brutal injuries amid riots. Thousands died or were wounded, with 1000 bodies in Moldovanka pits to conceal numbers. over 300 children treated by doctors for saber wounds as authorities seek funds for police wages.
Reports from St. Petersburg and surrounding provinces describe heavy casualties as soldiers clash with mobs and anti Jewish violence erupts. In Kremenchug twenty killed and eighty injured, Kutias train wrecks with nine soldiers dead, Berdicheff and Minsk see further killings and riots while Kishineff endures ongoing massacre and pillage. Jewish militia guards homes as four disguised detectives slain. In Forney Texas Mollie Graves, a restaurant operator, is killed by officers during the arrest of a suspect.
New Orleans reports the final week of the fever campaign with seven cases under treatment and few infection centers under observation. Federal staff are reduced to essentials, Dr White leaves for Chattanooga, Alabama quarantine lifted, rail schedules restored, and travel increasing. One new case and no deaths reported by noon Monday.
The Department of Agriculture reports the red spider or rust mite has been prevalent in sections of the cotton growing regions for two years. It is a tiny yellowish red mite feeding on the undersides of leaves and at times all parts of the plant, likely distributed across the southern cotton belt. Notably, injurious outbreaks were seen in 1903 in South Carolina and Georgia.
