Ironton Missouri March 22 Joseph Ralph Burton former United States senator from Kansas has been released from the county jail after serving six months of a six month sentence for violating a Federal statute by acting as a paid representative for a St Louis get rich quick concern. He was fined $500 and barred from ever holding a Federal office. He declares no crime and plans to publish a statement in serial form.
In a signed statement Burton denies plans for vengeance, asserts innocence, and says he will publish a newspaper reflecting his views. He promises a serial, truthful history of his case and critiques of government, planning to speak and write from Abilene. He aims to fight policies, not people, and to return home hopeful.
A Managua dispatch reports over 5 000 Honduran and Salvadoran troops attacked Portillas da Namasique for three days and were defeated. Nicaraguans seized prisoners including officers, 2 000 rifles, and war materiel while claiming capture of Le Ceiba port. Marines landed at Truillo Ceiba and Puerto Cortez to protect U S interests.
District Attorney Jerome presented eight affidavits to Justice Fitzgerald in the Thaw case arguing insanity. Defense counsel Delmas said their response was not ready. Both sides were allowed to file affidavits by Saturday at 2 PM. no jury or Thaw attended the session.
