Survivors of the steam dredge Texas report a brutal voyage after Christmas Eve foundering. Twenty two lives lost, chief officer and twenty one aboard swamped in a lifeboat. Fourteen days adrift, they faced hunger thirst exposure and even a planned cannibalism before rescue by Mercedes and transfer to Zeno then Waterford.
Lieutenant General Stoessel arrived from Moscow to a guarded, subdued welcome in St. Petersburg. War Minister Sakharoff and Admiral Zilotti greeted him as crowds cheered modestly, with police, Cossacks, and life guards mobilized for potential trouble. Stoessel and Mrs. Stoessel then rode to Prince Vlasemsky’s residence while noting Russia’s current tensions and public loyalty to the emperor.

Kuroki’s troops fought as skilled hill infantry surpassing Russian cavalry, with the Russians suffering heavy losses including 2000 dead and several machine guns.
Twenty members of the Philadelphia American League club led by Manager Connie Mack left for New Orleans for a southern training trip. Four games will be played with the New Orleans club starting next Saturday afternoon as Mack takes the team to Shreveport for a fortnight of drills.
In Oklahoma City a shooting at the Turf Exchange saloon ends with Napoleon Ferguson, a porter, dead. Proprieter CG L Dixon confronted Ferguson after learning of an alleged assault on Dixon’s 5-year-old daughter. Ferguson reportedly drew a gun. Dixon grappled, the weapon fired accidentally, killing Ferguson.
A shooting left one man dead immediately after a confrontation with Ferguson. The coroner cleared Dixon of fault, finding no grounds for charges.
Jerry White leader of the Snake Indians faction within the Choctaw nation died at his North Talibina home after stomach trouble. A prominent figure among the Choctaws, his stance against dissolution of tribal relations drew attention and is believed to have influenced his health and death.
