Harry R. Grandison, nineteen, a stone cutter, drank carbolic acid in North Memphis after declaring love for a classmate. He collapsed on a schoolyard lawn and died before help could arrive. Letters to his mother and sisters urged others to not let love drive such acts.

Colorado mother fatally shoots four children

Mrs Watt C Gregg killed her four children ages six months to eight years in Grand Lake Colorado then wounded herself and lies in critical condition. Neighbors heard shots as Gregg returned home to find his family slain and the scene described as a grim tragedy likely in a temporary insanity episode.

Dreadful Duel Ends in Tragedy at Paducah Home

In Paducah Kentucky J J Spink a railroad conductor and his brother in law J J Walters a piano tuner shot each other in a room of Spinks home where his wife and their newborn lay. Spink died at once and Walters died soon after. The infant died from shock and the mother is kept alive by artificial means. A trivial matter sparked the duel. Spink had long served as a conductor on the Memphis branch of the Illinois Central.

Merchant of Verden Ends Existence With Shotgun

In Verden Oklahoma on June 26 B E Bebee a former Anadarko city clerk killed himself with a shotgun. He had moved to Verden where he ran a mercantile store leaving an invalid widow and several small children.
