Des Moines River reports a rapid decline after floods that killed up to 200 in North Topeka and left 8000 homeless. Desperate rescues continue as fire and water devastate buildings, with warnings of pneumonia and shortages of clothing, fuel, and food.

A Gainesville telegram reports a terrible tornado striking the city causing many deaths and injuries. About eighty believed killed in the cotton mills with a score injured, plus eighteen killed between town center and the railroad station. The storm damaged the electric car barn and several stores. many workers were in mills at the time. Another item notes Alabama lawyer John J. Sheffy, a former Spanish-American War colonel, has died in Memphis at forty five.
