A McGehee Arkansas special reports B L Wright of Alexandria Louisiana was killed on a train when porter George Davis and Robert Good fought for a pistol. Good shot Wright at close range. Good fled and was killed by a posse. Wright's funeral will be at Fort Smith.
In Scottsboro Probate Court four Larkinsville men Ed Harris Albert Smith Theodore Brannon and Roy Keily were admitted to bail of 2000 each on lynching charges tied to the Andy Diggs case. Walker McCutcheon was discharged after alibi evidence. Flowers and delicacies greeted their detention in the sheriff’s private office.
Chickasha Oklahoma July 4. Line saloons have been set up along the line through Oklahoma and Indian Territory. Land border owners may establish them if lawful but the question was whether a lessee could run a saloon on school land. Governor Ferguson and Attorney General Roberts ruled that lessees may conduct saloons if they choose.
An iron bridge over the Washita west of Chickasha gave way while 100 horses were driven across. The animals panicked and crowded together as floods weakened the structure. Five horses were killed and the bridge will be repaired at once due to its importance.
Delaware district convention of the Cherokee nation National party met at Spavinaw Hills and nominated a full ticket. Senators named were W. T. Davis and Jeff Muskrat. Councilors selected were Tom Thomas, John Sharp, Walter W. Breed ove, James Crittenden, James Hilde brand, and Daylight Choppers.
Guthrie Oklahoma July 4 Mrs Jace Carson a young Shawnee society woman died in a runaway incident. She was thrown from the buggy wheel spokes and her body revolved until her neck was broken in a fatal accident.
John Fay, a passenger aboard the steamer Matanzas arriving from Tampico for New York, developed mild symptoms of yellow fever during the voyage to Havana.
Immense crowds attend the Guthrie Oklahoma wild west carnival on July 4. The event features roping and riding contests drawing large spectator turnout.
The National Amateur Press association at Chicago elected officers led by President A. E. Barnard of Chicago and First Vice President John Lupien of Musgegon Michigan. L. H. Starling of Grandview Tennessee was Second Vice President. Daisy White of Crowley Louisiana became Recording Secretary, Denison H. Clift of Palo Alto California Corresponding Secretary. Louis C. C. Wills of New York is Treasurer. A. H. Goodnough of Brattleboro Vermont is Historian. Walter Squires Goff of Britton Michigan will edit the official Paper. San Francisco to host the next meeting.
Chicago reports John W. Gates and other investors back Senator A. B. Lewis of Utah in a bid to acquire large iron deposits and build a steel plant. Lewis plans a twenty million dollar company to operate the properties, with involvement from W. A. Clark and C. A. Moffatt. J. C. Osgood also to participate after leaving Colorado Fuel and Iron.
Rome reports the death of Count Paolo Campobello once a canon of St. Peter's who left Catholicism and spoke violently against the Vatican in Italy England and America. He later recanted performed penance and was restored to the priesthood.
The Mill and Smelter Men’s union of Colorado City declares a strike at the Standard mill of the United States Reduction and Refining company. Union officers say the strike follows reinstatement of only one union man in violation of terms from the previous strike settlement.
In New York on July 4 J P Morgan and Co issued a formal notice that Seey has sold its common stock. The disclosure outlines the completion of the transaction and identifies the parties involved in the sale.
The Hocking Valley Railway company deposited under a syndicate agreement dated December 4 1902 at $1.5 per share. It is understood that control of the Hocking Valley passes to the Pennsylvania and Lake Shore.
Dr. D K Pearsons of Chicago donates 56800 to Pomona College, the largest cash gift to a southern college, bringing total cash gifts to 95000. The announcement highlights the significance of the contribution and Pearsons’ ongoing support.
The cable ship Angalia arrived in Honolulu Friday morning bearing the Honolulu end of the transpacific cable extending from Manila via Guam and Midway to this port.
