House Regs in Session Prompt Hat and Smoke Ban
Austin January 27. Mr Brown of Falls in the house called attention to rules barring hats and smoking during sessions. The speaker said enforcement would proceed. A privileged resolution proposed printing cards for member invitations and leaving public access in abeyance until then. Seats were opened to the public pending cards, reporters allowed. A concurrent resolution ordered printing 306 copies of the legislative manual for senate members. The contingent expenses committee recommended two extra porters. The house suspended regular business to take up DIT No 50, which provides for exempting dentists from a tax with lawyers to be added. A substitute to exempt lawyers was offered, debated, and votes divided. An amendment to strike lawyers from the list was proposed. A motion to reconsider failed after a roll call. An amendment to exempt merchants was debated briefly. The session adjourned until Tuesday.

Regularity of Teller's Senate Election Largely Acknowledged
Denver Jan 27 Republicans admit the election of U S Senator Teller is practically conceded after abandoning their separate organization and rejoining the Senate. Lieutenant Governor Haggett and Senator Adams resume the chair as the Democratic majority governs. The house officers recognize the Democratic Senate as regular by accepting last week’s emergency appropriation bill. An attempt to reconsider actions on Araphoe Democratic members failed. Governor Peabody says no reason to sign Teller's certificate.
