Reports from Sachatun Manchuria dated February 6 describe 290 gendarmes and police as the only Japanese force at Liao Yang, while 5900 troops are quartered in nearby villages. A large commissariat and ammo depot operate at the railroad station with vast stores of rice and sugar.
Reports from Ka nza indicate a serious strike situation with ongoing clashes between military forces and strikers. Twenty strikers have been killed and many wounded as authorities attempt to curb unrest. Lodz notes only partial factory resumes as some workers return while others remain out.
Buenos Ayres reports Colonel Galaza leading government troops to Cordoba. It is said Colonel Delacruz was killed and Cordoba insurrection leaders offer to surrender if spared. President Quintana demands unconditional surrender and court proceedings. Transport Santa Cruz sails with political prisoners.
Miles of upper Manhattan and Brooklyn streets lie piled with snow as a storm turned to rain and sleet. Sidewalks froze over, gutters clogged, and travel on surface and elevated lines slowed by slick rails and minor accidents. Floating ice clogged rivers and harbor delaying ferry service.
Oberlin Ohio February death of T Beckwith 65 year old president of Citizens National Bank of Oberlin after two days of unconsciousness. Indicted December by a Cleveland grand jury for violations of national banking laws tied to loans to Cassie L Chadwick. Death due to heart trouble. family at bedside. Beckwith death may affect forgery and conspiracy cases against Mrs Chadwick.
The body of Mrs. John A. Kirkpatrick was found in a back yard on Jackson street Allegheny after being murdered and assaulted. Norman Geyser, a board-marker, was arrested on murder charges. bloodstains and bite marks linked him to the crime.
Telluride Colo Feb 6 Tyrie Sneed Collard son of Rev J H Collard El Paso Texas and nephew of late Texas Chief Justice Collard was killed when he touched a live wire during a snow slide in Telluride. The Collard family once resided in Austin and Houston.
Badly demoralized by severe cold, Mississippi reports telegraphic and telephonic lines down. Telegraph companies say wires are out to Natchez New Orleans and other southern points with Western Union coordinating messages to New Orleans.
In a weather related collapse more than 200 telegraph poles were down in Mississippi cutting lines to the east gulf coast. Linemen work to restore communication as crews are plentiful. Fatal accident occurs near Watonga Oklahoma when the son of W H Meeck is crushed under a salt slide.
In Birmingham Alabama on Red Mountain two white carpenters R W Bearden and Charles Slimp were found dead. Bearden had throat injuries with his head nearly severed near a fountain. Slimp's body showed no wounds though found nearby. The men were close friends.
Mrs Jenne Hays of Sonora Kentucky had been paralyzed on one side for over a year and could not use her arm. After using Sloan's Liniment as directed she felt relief at once and after three treatments could use the arm again as well as ever.
