Night of Torture Ends in Vindication and 25000 Settlement
In Oxford Indiana in 1850 George W. King, hotel proprietor, was abducted by a mob that hanged him twice while forcing a false confession of Rowe's murder. The real doctor Rowe later proved innocent, returning to defend King and securing a 25000 settlement from the Horse Thief Detective Company. King died at seventy eight after buying a farm with the payout.
