Lynching of Henderson and Rowland in Rockport
In Rockport Indiana on December 17 a mob of about 1000 hanged Jim Henderson and Bud Rowland after they killed barber Hollie Simons and robbed his shop. The mob attacked the jail, dragged the prisoners from cells, and fired on those resisting. The tragedy followed a spree of local robberies ginning fear of further lynchings.
